Okay, as most know, I aint a meme ho around these here parts. But things around here are kinda slow and this is not some prepackaged answer-the-lame-questions-and-cut&paste-the-code-filled-with-tracking-bugs-into-your-journal sort of thing.

Ask me a question. Anything. I'll answer.

No seriously, what IS it you are looking at with great mirth on your avatar/pic, crossed arms?

Always wondered...

Tear-jerker movies. I can become an absolute mess watching The Color Purple, Titanic, Ghost, etc. Even movies not normally associated as such make me reach for the Kleenex, like Toy Story 2. I can get quite emotional, I admit it. And I aint ashamed of it.

I played a lot of Rush, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Yes, Led Zeppelin, stuff that I loved listening to. I love progressive, metal and fusion styles, but also like simpler, acoustic things as well. While I was never all that great a player, I was able to make some pretty decent sounds considering the complexity of some of it. I fell out of practice after a while and old age and hard manual work has taken it's toll on my hands. Still, I try to noodle around when I feel like it, and hope to maybe try and limber up and play again. Maybe.

I actually had a rather loose, simple but heavy lifting routine 4-5x a week. Typically a monday would be chest and triceps ('pushing' muscles), Tuesday would be back, shoulders and biceps ('pulling'), Wednesday would be legs, Thursday a break and then repeat the cycle. Honestly I did not look too much different, just less bulky I suppose. I was always a big strong kid growing up. It was nice being stronger. ;-)

My earliest memory was when I was not quite 5 years old, during a trip to Kiev (where my mom is from). Mom had a friend who was into electronics, radio and electrical hobbies and he showed me some of the stuff he'd mess around with. I was a natural at understanding it and basically was a sponge for it. I read my dad's college-level textbooks on auto engines and drivetrains at 6 years old (he wasnt reading them, hell, he moved out by then). I'd hang out around garages as a kid and actually help out, in some cases I'd have most of the mechanics picking up or pointing out things asking me what they were and what they do. It blew their minds sometimes. I got all sorts of worn out parts as freebies to play with. I used to build things from junk, take apart my toys and make new things from the innards, build electronic kits and whatnot. In many ways, I have not changed a bit!

Wow. While I'm not quite to your calibure, I do have my geeky moments. At a young age I was taking things apart to see how they worked, but getting them back together was not always successful.

Electronics have always been my forte in operating them etc.

As cliche as the phrase might be, "expect the unexpected". While you might be able to fathom the better part of me from my journal entries, there is more to me than I usually write here. I eventually get around to writing things about myself that I had not covered before. This is also what I find fascinating about many others on my friends list and elsewhere on LJ. I know more about some of the people on here than I know of people I worked with for over 20 years (that also might be the result of working with some very dull, uninspired people as well).

I have a few. Pro wrestling, Blue Collar Comedy, World's Strongest Man, tractor pulls, Punkin Chunkin', drag racing, motocross, COPS, Jerry Springer... a definitely redneck, blue collar, hand-down-the-front-of-my-jeans Al Bundy side of me that sometimes might get my 'gay card' revoked from the more upper crust in the gay community. I gave up on pro wrestling a while back - since all that hits TV these days (short of pay-per-view) is WWE, and they seem to have become allergic to the hairy bruisers that first attracted me to it. I really think the demise of WCW - as bad as it got toward the end - was a bad thing. Of course, when I was a teenager, there were 3 or 4 different pro wrestling outfits all competing for TV time.

Goldberg, the Bruise Brothers, "Dirty Dutch" Mantel, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Arn Anderson, Kevin Nash, "Prince Albert" ... heck, even Mick Foley -- those kinds of guys are the ones I miss seeing.

I really should write more about my Mom. She has led an incredibly interesting life (well, at least until I came along and ruined it!). Left her home at 15, Holocaust survivor, WAC (my momma wore combat boots and I'm proud of it), has had many interesting as well as dull jobs, the list goes on. It could be a book really. Dunno about a movie though. ;-)

I think I have a couple. The big one of course is I should have come out to myself a lot sooner and stopped hating myself for what I was. So much wasted energy and spirit. I would have been a lot more outgoing, had more friends over time and I think I would have been more successful in life. I dont fear much, but the wall of fear and self loathing I had throughout my teens and 20s prevented me from trying different things with my life. I fell into a rut in time and life was so predictable and 'safe'. I guess there is still time to change. ;-)

Got a hat? Drop it. LOL

Actually, it does not take a whole lot to send me off down some silly streak. The big one is being around others being silly themselves. I catch it like a virus. It will get even worse if there is alcohol involved.

Strangely enough, porn will often set me off as well. I cant take any of it seriously. True, some of it can be hawt, but I end up providing my own twisted dialog or play-by-play almost every time.

Top. Especially since the perforated colon that nearly killed me (though the injury was not the result of any sex, it was diverticulitis). I do like to be in control most of the time, since I know what buttons to push and knobs to turn, so to speak. As such, I can be orally versatile as part of the button pushing regimen. ;-)

I rate 'em very high, since it's something I love doing. My favorites are the pick-up-and-squeeze-till-the-spine's-a-crackin'-and-the-breath-taken-away, and the long, intense ones that show I really mean it. ;-)

I'll be looking for that hug if/when we finally meet!

Someone just drops $20,000 in your lap and says that you are free to spend it on anything, except on others. Where do you begin?

Date: 2006-03-11 01:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com
Nice chunka change like that, if I had it to spend solely on myself... hmmm...

I would probably break ground on either an addition to my garage, or a 20x24 building behind it for storing all the nonsense cluttering up my garage as it currently is. I'd have plenty of room to work in if it werent for all the lawn and garden stuff and machinery piled in there. However, this project in in the works anyway, so it would only be making it happen sooner I suppose.

Barring that, I'd dump it into a new home theater setup.

Accord. More stylish, great support in the aftermarket for accessories, and the hybrid version has the perfomormance of a V8 with the economy of a 4 banger.

You still a member of the SVB's? Ummn why am I asking...Because I remember you from something SVB related where I saw you - and didn't have the balls to say hello back then for fear of rejection...either that or my memory is shot..

Date: 2006-03-12 02:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com
Nope, havent been an active member of the SVBs since about 2001. I fell out of tough with the guys, but still manage to see them at the Brownstone or Hillside or some other places on occasions. Great gang!

I hope I dont come across as 'unapproachable' or some stuffy dickhead, that is not how I am. Next time, say hi!

Date: 2006-03-12 02:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rockybear02.livejournal.com
Hell at that point - EVERYONE was unapproachable to me! Back then I was scared of myself - all the new feelings of meeting gay men and finding out if that is who I was - the guilt. But I'm over that part now - I have a great man to back me up so that's a good feeling.

You go to Bear Night in Harrisburg? We've only missed one. Maybe I'll see you next week.
