I've recently, uh, 'acquired' the new Pain Of Salvation CD Scarsick prior to it's actual release. While I have not had much of a chance to listen intently to it, it's definitely not one of their usual, coherent, conceptual efforts. More Linkin Park or Rage Against The Machine in places, this is a hard-edged, critical essay on America, popular culture, poverty, etc. It almost flies in the face of what the band usually puts out. This one is all over the map. To the Rent soundtrack-inspired "America" to the decidely Scissor Sisters-ish romp "Disco Queen", one has to wonder what the band has been listening to since their last album Be.

I dont get it (yet), but I can't stop listening either.

You heard a fraction of what was on my iPod while at Hillside. You were spared the extremes though.

I've preordered it through Amazon. I won't download it because I want to hear it in its highest quality and I have to read the liner notes first. It's just part of the experience for me. Plus, Daniel Gildenlow does not approve :) Also, Inside Out records is one of the few record companies that I don't mind supporting. I have seen interviews with Daniel and he mentions that the story is more a single person point of view. Actually it IS the Perfect Element pt II and the character is the male person. On a larger scale, society is embodied in this character. Hell, I'll just give you the links to the interview.

Like most P.O.S. there's several layers to the concept.

I thought you'd like to know, if you didn't know already, Rush in coming out with an album sometime this year. Rumor has it that there will be 3 instrumentals on it. I'm not quite sure about that but I could suspect that there could be 3 instrumental interludes as part of a concept album! One could hope.

Oh, trust me. I will download something, and if I like it, I will buy it. It's only fair. On the flip side, there are a few things that I thought I would like, but the download saved me from spending fifteen bucks on something that would not receive more than a playing or two. "Sampling" new music in the fashion got me to buy a lot more CDs that I would have ordinarily. Internet radio stations like Delicious Agony contribute to that as well. Gotta love those currently playing live links. As far as Inside Out, the majority of CDs I bought in the last couple years came from that lebel. That either means I like a very narrow scope of records (which is far from the case) or Inside Out carries a large amount of very cool music (definitely the case). Inside Out is one of those classy labels that always treats their customers well, unlike a major *cough*Sony*cough* which automatically assumes every customer is a potential criminal (and wants to monetize everything possible by preventing ripping of CDs I have bought, etc). And I am not saying this because my ex's band is on that label either. ;)

I've been trying to listen to the CD between bouts of chasing the dog and tending to other tasks, and I am frustrated by not having my relaxing time of listening, from beginning to end a couple times over to soak in the concept. This goes for most music I buy. New CDs go right into the PC and put on my iPod where I can listen more intently (ironically this happens at work!).

I have a 15 dollar Amazon gift cert that I have yet to use, and if things go as they are, I will have the PoS CD in the next order. And, if you think about it, I still wouldnt have paid for it. X-D

Another strange fact, regarding those Gildenlow videos, I once had hair like that. Not quite as long, but close. :-O

PoS is looking for a bass player. Why havent you stepped up to the challenge?

As far as the last question goes, I don't want to move to Sweden :) PoS is just another band and they all have day jobs just like me. Maybe when they're touring internationally I will join. lol. I just want to add that I heard that Inside Out pays its artists half of what the CD makes. Don't know if it's true, but I give them major props if it is.
