Yeah, well, I've been around, if just barely. I've kept LJ close but quietly, catching up where I can and making a couple comments. Some very sad news around the flist, but some bright spots in people's lives as well. My heart goes out to those who are dealing with tremendous losses and changes. And my thumbs up for those enjoying some of the good stuff that life brings about.

As for me, last weekend I took a trip over to where I was born and raised. Camera in hand, I wandered about taking shots while being overwhelmed with memories. Long story short, just about everything has been obliterated, but there were a few remaining hints of the past to be found. Some day, hopefully sooner than later, I can assemble the pictures taken along with others I have as well as scans of photos going back to before I was born, creating a photo essay of some history very close to me. It's likely to be uninteresting to most, but it will be meaningful and perhaps even cathartic for me.

As for this weekend, not a lot went on. The weather was nice on Saturday, so Jeff and I spent part of the day doing yard work. I did tinkering around the garage, trying to gather things back into some semblance of order in preparation for springtime projects. The highlight for today was a trip to Verizon Wireless to replace our aging handsets. Jeff got a nearly-new Razr thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sfmini, and I sprang for a new LG Voyager. It's kinda like an iPhone, but without the smugness and with an extra battery. ;) :D I feel so techie modern now.

Here's to a good week.

the town I spent my early childhood in really isn't there. A small town of 20,000 I think now is over 100,000. The house we lived in is not even there anymore. Now that I have moved my mother to Virginia there is no reason to ever go there again. she had moved away from the town 20 years ago, but left a little more than an hour away so I could visit. What's more disturbing than the changes in the town is the lack of having a hometown to belong to.

Curious that you took this long to use that phone. Didn't I sent you that over a year ago? You'll probably have to replace the battery as it probably won't hold much of the charge after all this time. The one thing I lost when I sent that to you was a really really good camera. Two of the photographs I took turbo that are framed by to put that camera. The only thing I didn't like was Verizon. in making you upload through their network to get the picture.

When I had my Moto e815, I was able to save the pics I took on that great camera phone directly to the trans flash card and upload it directly to the computer without having to do through Verizon. Currentlly, I have to do that with the Juke since it's internal 2G memory doesn't have an easily accessable file for me to grab the images directly, thus I have to go through the network, however, by right clicking on the image on the wwebsite, I can drop it into my computer for "fixing" as best I can. The phone on the Juke sucks.

I guess it is different for me. My folks still live in the same house for 44 years. We live on 110 acres and the only new houses are my cousins. But it is still strange to go back - both my elementary and jr high school are fields now. Both leveled and now all joined together in this huge building miles away from where I went to school at. I do dread the day my folks are no longer with us.

Oh ya - and let us know how that Voyager works out - Carm needs a new phone one of these days...

When I got the phone from you, Jeff had not started his new job yet. The phone was originally for him. Once at the new job, he found out he could not have a camera phone in the premises. I had the same issue, needed a phone, could not have a camera. So, I charged it up and put it away for later. In the meantime, Jeff started yet another job where he could get away using a cell phone in the lobby or other open areas, and eventually policies were changed to allow phones with cameras in my facilities (though using the camera ist verboten). About a month ago I tried enabling the phone via the VZW web service, but it did not work. I figured I'd eventually be at the store. That was yesterday, and everything worked out perfectly. They even transferred all the contact info from the old phones to the new ones.

Nice thing about the Voyager is that I can transfer pics, music and video either by USB cable or the flyspeck MicroSD card, and not go through the network. With MD on the verge of making cell use in a car illegal except for handsfree use, getting phones with the bluetooth thingies was a bonus. The battery seems to be just fine in the razr, though I will soon pick up an extra before they become scarce or nonexistent.

It's kinda boring compared to most, but it's kinda unique I think.

So far so good on the Voyager. The phone seems to be nice and clear, and I can transfer all kinds of files between the phone memory or the SD card by USB or taking the card out and putting it in the PC.

My elementary school was turned into a county office and maintenance complex not long after I went into higher grades. My middle and high schools have not changed a great deal. Most everything else in the once rural area has been completely changed.

I do think it's partly the design of the camera itself, not the carrier, although I do think Verizon does kind of force the issue of uploading, but not always it seems.

Right now, my Juke forces me to upload. :-( Hey, it's fantastic otherwise. :-)

no camera phones at work? How about a 007 spy tie clip camera with a water jet? You must work where they keep state secrets. In my office the only thing a camera would capture would be me slithering out the front door 20 minutes early.

I love all this exciting new technology, and would probably avail myself to a lot more of it if I had people to call. I specifically miss the camera, but I am getting all the cell phone service by me with this prepaid plan. It even automatically prepays itself from my credit card. Since I sent you that phone I have gone from spending $65 a month to seven dollars a month, and have every bit the quality of the regular phone plans. Until I become very popular I'll probably stick with this. Still miss my camera...
