Two years later...

Well, here it is, the second anniversary of 9/11. The airwaves are full of memorials, speeches, analysis, grieving, rememberance. I cannot say that I feel any more secure or patriotic across the two year timespan, as a matter of fact, I feel more uncertain and uneasy than I ever have. That horrible event, which affected close friends of mine directly and me personally, sent ripples of shock throughout the world. Wave upon wave of sympathy and support came back for America, and it's become plain that we squandered this support for our own bluster and interests. Our brave soldiers are being picked off daily in an operation that was begun under false pretenses.

Hey Georgie! Where's Osama? Howbout Saddam? Ah, well, at least you have those oil fields.

Lest anyone think I am anti-American, that couldn't be further from the truth. I love our country, it's heritage, what it's people have done throughout the past couple hundred years to create such a wonderful land of freedom and democracy. What I don't like is the power wielded by corporate and religious interests as of late and what this is doing to not only our country, but the rest of the world.

Government of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations. Separation of church and state? Not as long as the church is another corporation.


Think back to what you were doing exactly two years ago, right about this time. Remember how you felt, the fear, the worry, the pain, and the uncertainly. What was it that your mind focused on? What exactly were you holding close to your heart, who and what concerned you the most?

This is what America, patriotism and 'homeland security' is all about. Not what is going on two years later.
