Ah well, so good ol' Ah-nuld is now governor of Kalifornia. Bummer to me because for the most part I like his movies and there arent going to be any new ones. I can hear the Cali people whining now. Hey, it's your state, you wanted the recall, now live with the consequences of your choice. It could have been a lot worse (whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Mr Speaker?). True, he might not have any experience as a politician, but to me that is a dubious qualification at best. I'd take being a freshman running the state over being a career politician with all the shady connections that come with it. The Republican party needssomeone to yank it back from it's self-righteous, teetering-to-the-right-of-right position it's been headed for far too long. Unless he somehow becomes Ashcrofted into the party line, which would not sit well with the state anyway, I think he's going to succeed at what he's up against.

I have always admired the man not for his body or his acting ability, but for his commitment and energy. He made himself a household name despite far too many opinions he's faced on the negative side. He popularized bodybuilding, raised the bar of development and symmetry in that sport, and crossed over into popular culture and evolved into the brand name he is today. I think more people should take a page from his book and work as hard as he has to excel in whatever they want to.

He can fall back on one of his lines from Conan The Barbarian. He more or less crushed his opponents, and he's sure hearing the lamentation of the women. Bodybuilding of course is a sport of unbridled machismo, as well as having one of the biggest closets. The guys are all about showing off for the women while drenched in a testoterone-fueled frenzy, but the sport owes far more to the gay community than it will ever acknowledge. Far, far less women concern themselves with huge muscles than do other men, just a look at the audiences of typical bodybuilding contests bear this fact out. Arnie knows this, and realizes that a measurable amount of his success comes from the gay community, and he respects them. This is something much lacking in the Republican party, and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the near future with gay marriage and attempting constitutional amendments against it, etc.

And to those who are glad they dont live in California, well, there is a reason for that old saw that says what's good for Cali is good for the rest of the country. Eventually the entire country will feel the ripple effects of this regime change, like it or not.
