OKay, so today during my running around and working around here the radio has been on and I've been listening to some highlights from the Live 8 concert/benefit. I gotta say, some of it has been quite good. There is an energy coming from some of these bands. Earlier I heard U2, which of course is a cornerstone at this gig. I heard some Verve and Audioslave from there as well. Audioslave was doing a cover of Rage Against the Machine's Killing In The Name Of that took on a whole new meaning in this context, despite Chris Cornell's sometimes flat delivery. Now that I have a break and can plant my ass in front of the PC, I managed to find a live feed from AOL Music. Currently the Who is playing and is sounding damn good. I hope I can see Pink Floyd if they havent played yet. This concert is apparently coming out on a DVD, and judging by the highlights I have heard (and seen) so far, it looks like it's gonna be a good one.

Live 8 Hyde Park feed can be found here. Other feeds can be found on that page. The high bandwidth feeds are pretty decent.

The Live 8 info and petition page can be found here. They are not asking for money. They want your name. Your voice. A name to add to the growing list of signers that will be given to world leaders and politicians to let them know people want a change. I did this, why shouldn't you?

Breathe. Money. Wish You Were Here. Comfortably Numb.

Only four songs. But I am still happy. Pink Floyd managed to set aside their differences and play some of their best known songs on stage while the normally moving marquee atop the entire stage was frozen with the words NO MORE EXCUSES.

As a banner held aloft by someone in the audience read that echoed (wink) my sentiments: "Pink Floyd Live. Pigs have FLOWN". Rumor has it that there is something else in potentially in the works. Roger Waters' voice is a bit rough now, but they pulled it off, playing tight and with some proud energy. Let's hope there is something more to come.

Right now on the Hyde Park stage Paul McCartney is performing Beatles songs, currently Helter Skelter. Sounding good.

It's times like this I am glad there is the internet. It connects people in many ways over huge distances and can empower them to make a big difference in themselves and in the world.
