(Ed. note: I had planned on posting this about a week ago, and forgot about it. Here it is, just in time for the rush.)

Okay, how many of you are grousing over the fact that you have yet to complete all your Christmas Holiday shopping? Dreading the thought of entering the belly of the beast this weekend and fighting it out for the latest, most desirable stuff to give (or receive)? This whole ordeal got you down?

Or are you the sort who absolutely thrives on the challenge? You know, the sort who heads out at 3am on Black Friday to stand in lines forming in front of all those stores offering merchandise for some small percentage off of the usual price. You've seen the commercials, heard the buzz, and now it's must-have time. No crowd is unworthy of a good fight!

Or... you cant wait to have the latest iteration of your favorite gadget. 40gig iPod aint enough? Get the 160! Last year's cell phone isnt stylish enough? iPhone, baby! OMG shoes. These shoes SUCK. THESE shoes ROCK!. You know the drill.

Well, let me be the one to happily throw cold water on your holiday spree. Take 20 minutes out of your busy schedule, sit back at your PC and watch The Story of Stuff.

Granted, I might be preaching to the choir when it comes to a lot of my readership. Then again, it's always good to put things into perspective. Here is a no-nonsense, only slightly politically biased (at least to those who disagree, but isnt that always the case here?), well-cited look at the grand process that designs, creates, builds and sells us all those products we crave.

That fruit cake aint looking so bad now, eh?
