The only reason for this post, during The Great LJ Content Strike of 2008, is to try out posting via microscopic type on a cell phone. It's not like I post a lot of content anyway. Besides, LJ got all my money when they were owned by Six Apart. Now I am basically stuck with this thing. Might as well use it.

I admire what y'all are trying to accomplish though. SUP are really setting themselves up as total fucktards.

I must admit that I don't see the point of the strike.

Re: censorship, some of the things they've tried made no sense, but some other things work quite well. Want to see adult content? Provide a birth year. Pretty simple, and nothing any other site with adult content doesn't do. The bit with the interest blocking was fucked, and they've admitted it. No longer an issue for me.

Re: no more free accounts...how many sites can we visit these days that DON'T have ads attached? Having ads in your free content is also nothing new. What was unusual was that we DIDN'T have to deal with it for so long. Don't want ads? Pay for the service. Also very simple, and SOP for websites these days.

I guess I just don't understand what all the fuss is about. But then, I pay for my LJ and have for a long time because I like the features. LJ is a business; they're just now finally starting to run it like one.

Yep! I just have to be careful to not crush the poor cell phone with my "legendary grip strength", as you call it. ;-)

I block most ads on my PCs, so that, coupled with perm status here makes it a non-issue. My main concern was how it was handled, no prior communication, so no chance for people to make any last minute changes (and that was probably why). Our new overlords have been a tad boorish with new policy though, so a bit of pushback is not unwarranted.

And I see that point, too. I guess I have just seen their lack of finesse as primarily a cultural issue. But yes, they might just need to learn to communicate with "Westerners" more effectively.
