Possible propositions
Nov. 5th, 2008 08:33 pmMy friend Harry has a thoughtful open letter to President-elect Barack Obama over at his LJ. It's most definitely worth a read.
It saddens me to see an undercurrent of infighting and friction among some in my readership over the whole Prop. 8 issue, but I cannot say I didn't expect it. The framework has been put into place now that can serve us better than anything in the past 8 years so long as we make the best use of it. There's a lot of work to be done, and lots of obstacles to overcome. Fight the good fight, but remember to fight the foes, not each other. Keep the momentum going, and get creative.

Date: 2008-11-06 03:42 am (UTC)I went and had a look at your friends list ... and I did see someone saying that those black folks who voted Yes on 8 should be put back into slavery... that's just disgusting.
If anything, this says that we need to educate people on why this is a CIVIL RIGHTS issue not a religious one, and not any threat at all to their children.
I have no prospects, nor no interest in getting married - but I do think my gay brothers and lesbian sisters should have the option if that's what's right for them. As you say, it just means we have to work harder, educate more - and keep in mind that once again, young people are on our side so it's quite literally just a matter of time.
