I am ashamed of my country, Ashamed that people like Orly Taitz, screeching queen of the 'birther' rabble-rousers not only exists, but is given forum after forum in which to spew her rabid unintellectual bile. Ashamed that idiots would rather bleat and scream loudly than participate in reasoned discussion. I'm fed up with people who are easily manipulated using fear and emotions rather than facts and intelligence. Stupid is as stupid does. And stupid has been making a name for itself lately. Too bad it won't just be the stupid among us that will suffer from their deeds.

Yeah, it's pretty appalling - but what do you expect in a country with the highest level of doubt in evolution of any of the industrialized nations? Where it's probably impossible for an open atheist to get elected to anything?

Yeah, Oily Taintz is revolting - but maybe her example will shock a few people back into rationality.

Not to really push you further down than you already are, I've been following the exciting atheist discussions on http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/ especially most recently regarding a group of atheists to visited the Creation Museum...and the subsequent fallout.

It's definitely popcorn worthy...and yeah, dare I say it: Nacho worthy.

Just be careful spitting up the jalepenos.
Can be rough on the sinuses.

I ♥ PZ Myers! ;)

I've gotten a bit behind on my reading of that blog, though - I've gotta go catch up.

Diane Rehm, a national treasure and oasis of rationality, did a great program yesterday on extremists in public discourse. Her guest was Peter Berger, a sociologist from Boston U. His book, "In Praise of Doubt", is a must read.

It is problematic in American discourse that everyone, not just the radical right, takes absolute positions on relative issues and relative positions on absolute issues, leading to the impossibility of any reasonable discourse or agreeable disagreement.

Well, take some solace in the fact that Orly Taitz isn't American. She's Israeli, from the wingnut ultra-Zionist right, and has her own whacko ax to grind.

it's funny how the zionists used to be SUPER left, and now they're super right.

ugh, and her accent annoys me!!

1) I'm Jewish
2) I speak Hebrew
3) I work in "little Israel" -- my lab is 50% Israeli (N=24)

Qualifiers out of the way, her accent is not standard Israeli, or even on what I would consider the usual continuum. It's this annoying annoying compilation of stuff. I hear her voice and it's like nails on a chalkboard.
