March of the Questions

According to some LJ law, March is supposed to be "Ask Me Anything Month".

So, have at it. Comments here are public. If you'd rather not ask your question in front of the entire internets, send me a LJ message instead.

How much longer until homo sapiens evolves past thier
current violent, primitive state?

No progress will be made as long as religion and politics (two sides of the same coin) hold such power over personal and community life. Politics seeks to give one side an advantage over another for personal gain, religion does the same thing but uses arbitrary, fake reasoning as a driver, ultimately duping otherwise well-meaning people into fighting on the front lines for a few puppeteer-like people or organizations to hold all the power. This most often happens at the expense of those well-meaning people. They will live in abject poverty while the solicitors of their cause are bathed in riches and power.

You may have said them before, but can I please have your basic stats?

Also, how's the weather? :)

I guess since I took down almost all personals-oriented sites and pages I used to have, nothing shows me by-the-numbers. Currently I am 48 years old, 6ft tall, about 230 pounds, have salt-and-pepper hair (with increasing amounts of salt) in almost all places, I have a beard that's getting a tad out of control, hazel eyes (two), five digits on the end of each limb (still), I tan easily, like having my back scratched, listen to too much loud rock music (still), I wear glasses these days, I have a fondness for cats and dogs (and animals in general), and I like building, fixing and making stuff, especially when it comes to cars, electronics, computers and homes.

Anything ekse?

No, that's pretty much it really. More than I expected, though. :D

Morality - objective or relative?

[identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Both. Many aspects of morality as it serves the human good are rather objective - Do not kill, help others, don't wizz on the electric fence, etc - are immutable values and actions that help preserve the human race and further it along intellectually, socially and as a species. Morality does tend to have a territorial side, and that's where it becomes more relative. Different societies have their own concept of what they consider to be moral behavior, often based on those 'golden rule', top-ten sort of objective rules. Problems arise when such behavior is taken on for it's own sake, "Don't question what the King does, because the King says so", "the Bible says so, I believe it, end of discussion," sort of thing. Belief systems clash, and people end up violating the Golden Rules for their own little relativistic thinking. But therein lies the conundrum. Would you use an opportunity to put a bullet through the skull of someone who is about to push a button and kill thousands?

If you could be any kind of pie, what kind of pie would you be?

[identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Apple pie, because everyone likes it. It's familiar, it's associated with good things, etc. But with raisins. Something unexpected. And cinnamon. I like to spice things up. And nails, since I rock.

We've discussed this before, somewhat...but has your 'gift' ever caused complete and total chaos for you?

[identity profile] sfmini.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
We're both 48. The time for life preparation is kinda past us. This is it, the real deal. Now that you are here are you happy and and are the man you want to be?

Have you ever met my next-door neighbor, Michael C., affectionately known as sex-pig? He spends time at Hillside every summer.

It has been about 10 years since I have been to Hillside, but I'm sure I'll be back sometime.
