Well, I still am a Christian (well, nominal at least) and I hate the song too. I do love some tunes I have sung before at the holiday that have had a profound effect on me. For example, there is a Gloria by Randall Bass that I sang with Turtle Creek chorale - 225 male voices, pipe organ, two pianos and brass - I would get chills and feel as if I was going to burst into flight in parts, but also have tears run down my face in parts. An acapella piece called "Sleep, My Child" to this day brings tears every time I hear it. Anyway, schlock like this always just makes me cringe. Another nearly as bad, "Happy Birthday Jesus" makes me want to poke my eardrums out with an ice pick.
Just out of curiosity, do you adhere to any of the secular aspects of the season like decorating a tree, etc?
