It seems as thought LJ has taken it upon itself to present me with a captcha every time I try to leave a comment to someone's entry, despite being logged in. Until this passes, I am not bothering with comments. If it continues, i.e. this has somehow been made permanent and not some sort of temporary glitch, I'm done here. The exploiters owners of LJ have been slowly destroying the user experience here bit by bit. There are more tracking and data-mining mechanisms being thrown into this place monthly, the load times have suffered as a result. I feel less and less inclined to post here. Although I have a Dreamwidth account, my attempts to make it mirror my past entries were an exercise in futility. I have a Blogger account, as well, but that was done solely for leaving comments and participating in some now-defunct discussions. I will make my leave of social media as it stands, since I don't particularly care to be a money-making subject in some big corporate boondoggle.

I'm STILL waiting for yahoo groups to realize that if I'm logged in and PART OF THE GROUP that YES I do realize it's adult content and yes, I think I'm quite well ready for whatever "adult content" it might throw at me.

I have no idea why you're getting this... but it's not happening to me. I can sure see where it would promptly piss you off! I hope you figure it out and get it resolved pronto, because I sure as hell don't want to lose you here.

It's those damn Russians! ever since they took over this site has gone steadily downhill. I think this problem you are having is something else though.About a month ago I had a problem with the sign in part of the site until one day after about a week it was just "fixed"

Is it happening on every LJ you comment on, or just every time with specific LJers?

There is actually a feature to turn that on for people who comment who are not white-listed (JWZ had this for ages). I'd be interested if that happens on my LJ.

Is the captcha response showing up on everyone's journals when you reply - like even your own- or is it only very specific journals? Certain people have it turned on to reduce spam-comments, or as a way to block harassment from other people. You might take note of that.

I speculate the other option is are you logged in directly to Livejournal? OpenID replies often require the captcha as well as anonymous commenters do- which is when I very frequently figure out that I've been logged off LJ (again).

Like yourself, I am a permanent member, and I am not getting them at all- and I think we'd be seeing more of a fuss if everyone were getting this response.

Either way, what you describe is very unusual behavior, and you might take the time to submit a support request.

I think so as well. I get it rarely, but I am a paid user who allows cookies from this (but not all or even many) sites. If you're being private that's your right, but many people have ensured they avoid spam and trolls by using privacy settings such as ip checks, logged users only, and type-verification spots to keep out the chaff.

Not that eljay is perfect, but I think what you're experiencing is actually the offset of a more positive thing than a lack of controls.

I just put a new hard drive in the computer and installed an OS the other day.
The only browser I had on was, of course, IE. Before getting Firefox up and running I browsed over to my LJ list and there was a GIANT pop-up banner that dimmed the screen, too. It said, "Your LiveJournal experience will continue when the ad is finished."

Oh HELL no.
I'm staying with LJ because I've still some friends unique to this place here, but jesus tits, not for much longer I think.

I've had those large ads come and go myself, but usually because I've been logged off (cookies and log in's do expire after so many hours) and while they are annoying, I've not noticed the captcha thing unless I try to comment while not logged in, usually for me, it lets me know and I can log in and it'll then post, especially true for posting to my own journal.

I am a paid member and a good chunk of my F list has turned off anonymous commenting anyway.

Don't want to see you go, you is entertaining!

If you do consider leaving the L-to-the-J do consider telling your global throng of followers where and how they may continue to peek and comment on you n yours as I am sure most would want to continue to do so :)

Hope you are both recovering well! :)

I get that, too. I hit the little "x" and refresh the screen, LJ surfing continues unabated.

I do hope you stick with LJ, Phil. I know I would miss your presence terribly.

I'm not sure what is going on with your experience with CAPTCHAs. I've never been asked to enter one.
