I promised good weather

Yesterday's weather was unseasonably warm, a t-shirt 'n' jeans day in the middle of winter? Sign me up. Today is supposed to get even warmer. As some of you might recall, I walked outside the house on my birthday Feb. 2, looked down, and lo and behold, there was no shadow. So, as promised, the six remaining weeks (give or take) of winter is to be mild. Remember, when it comes to groundhog weather prognostication, the "six more weeks of winter" is a given, shadow or no. It's whether the weather will be nasty, cold and snowy (shadow seen) or mild, sunny and warmer (no shadow seen). I keep my promises. However, the weather conditions only apply to the greater Eastern Seaboard/Northeast US. I can't promise much beyond that. YMMV. Or YWMV, as the case may be.

Jeff came home early from work, and we scooped up Kodi and took a nice long (and, for me, almost stumble-free) walk in the neighborhood. It does are ursine and canine bodies good. A little while ago, I picked up a new camera, a Canon SX230 HS. I took it along as its first test outside, and I am pretty pleased. I got this little compact super-zoom to have something versatile yet pocket-sized. I wanted something I could sneak into shows, or just carry with me and grab shots not possible with my other pocket camera, a Pentax W30. A 14X zoom, 12.1MP, and full 1080p HD video in such a small package is amazing, and it was less than 250 bux at Costco. I took a few snaps while we were out, and I created a set on Flickr to toss some of the random shots I am taking with it. Below is one I call "Tree Hugger."

More shots of the walk and more can be found here.

I notice it has been over a year since I did anything with my Flickr account. Maybe that will change.

Purdy....

What's up with Kodi's Elizabethan collar-thing going on?

Kodi has been biting around his hindquarters because of some parasite which name escapes me. He's been taking meds for that, and is not after himself as much as before. I think he's still trying out of habit, but I yell "CONE OF SHAME!" at him when he starts, and that makes him back off. lol

It was a good day for riding. The nurse practitioner I talked to today said she was out riding yesterday along with lots more people. I'm ready for more, though today's weather that was promised to be so good was a washout.

It's amazing what quality is available in pocket size cameras these days! Nice photos!

"to have something versatile yet pocket-sized."

Don't we all want that? =)

::sigh::

Beautiful photos.

I added you as a FlickR pal.

I also left a few comments there for you.

Have a great weekend!

My first SLR (bought at an Army PX in Nam in 1969) was a Canon ... I loved it and it lasted for over three decades. My next (digital) one might be a Canon again.

Love the sycamore shot - you've captured the essence of that tree in all its late winter majesty. Liked the other pix as well - am especially partial to the ones featuring Kodi.

Nice pics!

The weather has been so odd in western NY. Hardly any snow. I can't remember ever having such a wussie winter.

Cone of shame. ;-) I always thought of those as Elizabethan collars. Whenever I see a dog wearing one, I feel compelled to quote Shakespeare.

Nice weather! Back in 2010, if you recall from some stunning photo sets I put up here in my journal, we had a spate of very nice, warm weather in Feb and even nicer, warmer weather in March that year.

Today? Not so much, I don't think we got out of the upper 40's at best and it was cloudy and when I left work at 4pm, it was raining.

But when I went to the pizza place to pick up my order around quarter to 7 this evening, it had stopped.

Love the pics BTW. Love the clouds you got. I love weather like that.
