I've gone on and on about my love for music via these pages since I began the whole LJ thing over ten years ago. I also have written ad infinitum about my love of automobiles (when they aren't causing me some hellbound fit because something is wrong and I am in the midst of fixing them, at least). I've been perusing a bunch of saved links (not much else I can do) and found this video, one I meant to post here some time ago. It's somewhat of an ad, but it has no focus on a particular product. In it, we are treated to something very simple, but for people like me, it has a very special, deep meaning. It is the sight and, more importantly, the sound of several high performance cars being started up. Domestic to exotic, every one has its own place among some of the greatest performance automobiles. Each one has it's own voice, it's own song. Like some of my favorite music, hearing this music brings a smile to my face.

Find your best set of earphones, or killer surround system, maximize your screen and enjoy.

I was waiting to see if there would be an MGB; when I was a kid in Kentucky in 1968, I remember riding in the passenger seat of my friend Lisa's mother's red sports car. It was missing the panel under the dash, so there was some wiring and stuff peeking out. (I was 6 or 7, so I didn't know what I was looking at.)

In the 80s, I again rode in the passenger seat of a guy's restored MGB; all the details, down to the wooden steering wheel, were replaced. I had a flashback to the original MGB—which, of course, I hadn't known was an MGB—and the reason I knew was that everything was the same as "my" first MG—but the panel was intact. Cool experience.

I am completely ignorant on this topic. To my untrained ear, the 2002 Ferrari had a very powerful start up sound. In fact, I had not even heard of many of these cars before:) Please, don't hate me:)

What is your favorite?

Dang,

That was fantastic. I love listening to cars being started up and some of the more proletariat of cars can have wonderful sounding motors. :-)

I loved it when they cranked over that 1964 Porsche 911, or 912 with its air cooled motor.

Interesting to note that some of the world's exotics still relied on the old reliable key to crank 'em over as lat as 2002, as noted by the '02 Ferrari.

Still though, they should have cranked over an old Mopar with the reduction gear starters that came online around 1963 or so. :-) Also, older Hondas had great sounding starters, as did Chevy's, Fords and so on.

Nothing better than listening to your motor hum in idle after an oil change. Loved how my old 83 Civic sounded like a sewing machine, same with the old Accord, and my Mazda currently does similar.

Did anyone besides me notice the (assumed) typo on the '64 Austin Healey 3000? It said 5.0 V8. I guessing it wasn't a motor conversion, either, as it sounded more like the familiar, throaty BMC inline six.

It was interesting to hear the new Jaguar F Type, a car which I've read several times sports one of the most seductive, sonorous engine/exhaust notes of any car - ever.
