I've been reading with some interest about the release of the new Apple Mac Mini and other goodies. I've also been tracking the progress of a couple LJ posts/threads spawned from these new releases.

Talk about your howling and gnashing of teeth!

The PC/Mac battle has been going on for as long as both platforms existed, and there's no sense in me revisiting that, we all know the drill. For the record, I am a PC guy. Why? Mostly because I have always built my own computers. I've used Macs throughout the years and I still find them to be great systems which only got better with the release OSX. Still, Let me cobble together my own crazy PC, with a terabyte of hard drives, RAID, water cooling, etc. I'm a hardware guy, and tinkering makes me happy. Getting the software to play nice is another story though.

I also have an iPod. Still to me the best music player in terms of design useability and interface. There are cheaper ones, but this one still got it all right.

Apple to me embodies the 'out of the box experience' more than most other companies. You pay for this, however. I believe when you buy an Apple product, you are buying a premium piece. This is also to mean that you will find cheaper alternatives, but not necessarily the 'total package' in many cases. Kudos to them for coming out with the Mac Mini. It's not a new idea, nor is it state of the art in terms of features or performance. It does bring Apple's sleek industrial design to the form factor. Who knows, I might get one simply to be able to work both sides of the fence from the same console. It's only a KVM switch away.
