It seems the crawlers have discovered my email address at livejournal. It's not surprising, except for the fact that despite LJ's masking scheme it's an easy matter to divine email addresses for paid members by simply adding "@livejournal.com" to a person's screen name here. It seems to be concurrent with that latest (now seemingly defunct) blasted meme "who's looking" that came from some Russian website. Some of the memes/quizzes that circulate around here are so filled with tracking schemes, web bugs and whatnot in addition to the nonsense they waste bandwidth on. Besides, so many of those things contain code that blow up the friend's view of journals. Say 'no' to prepackaged memes. If you just gotta, however, participate in those that tell others more about yourself instead. I couldnt care less about what sort of Jedi side dish you are.

Notice I said "couldnt care less". It seems that the phrase has been bastardized recently. In conversations, commentary or even in print, people have fallen to saying they "could care less". Well, there goes the impact of your statement. If you 'could care less', then you havent really laid on the smackdown like you are intending.

The value of your cologne does not go up with the amount of time you've steeped yourself in it. Less is more. None is best IMO. Especially in crowded and/or confined situations.

Why do people insist on buying bottled water, especially when some live in areas that have very good tap water? I can correlate the current decline in current civilization with the advent of 'pay water'. That bottle of Dasani/Aquafina is nothing more than filtered tap water used in making Coke/Pepsi. You've paid the same for the water as you would have for the soft drink, but only got one ingredient. What burns me these days is certain settings (theme parks for one) have removed most of the water fountains and replaced them with vending machines selling water. For 3 bux a bottle. What a stupid waste of money and resources.

What did people do before cell phones?

I for the life of me cant figure out why a 4-lane stretch of highway must come to a screeching halt just because there is one car on the side of the road with it's hood open. Is the need for schadenfreude so great that people have to soak in the glee of some unfortunate soul's flat tire or overheated engine?

The above list was gleaned just from this weekend's outings, which, in addition to previous fun stuff, should become a posting. I just needed to vent. Y'all just happened to be in the fallout zone. :o)

Good points, all. The bottled water thing just mystifies me, too.

The thing that pisses me off about water is that you can't find anywhere in public to find any. I can't drink carbonated beverages, anything with sugar or caffeine. Have you ever gone into a convenience store to look for anything without those three things? The only thing there is water. So I buy water. I wish I didn't have to pay $1.50 for 16oz of water, but what am I gonna do? I freaking hate it.

Awww... thanks, Phil. I have to say I have been just blown away by all the nice messages from LJ folks. This really is a great community.

And I love how it has helped me get to know great guys like you.

Big furry hugs to you, bud.

Spend $3 on a portable water (sports) bottle and fill it up at home each time before you leave the house, and carry it with you.

That would require planning and good judgement, neither one I'm good at!

Well I never understood the bottled water thing until I moved up here. I'm sorry but the water in Maryland and DC tastes like ass (and not in a good way).

The municipal water around my area comes from a few reservoirs. There is minimal processing done to it before it's sent down the pipes. Washington DC water though... bleah. Tastes like river water with bleach in it. Maybe because it is. The water at my house comes from a hole in the ground next to the house, over 200 feet deep. It's very good, though has a bit of hardness and iron. I added a trio of filters in line and now I have water that rivals anything you can get in a bottle.

New York City has remarkably good water as well, it basically goes through a clarifying filter and chlorinated, and that's it.

Granted, if you live in an area where the water quality sucks, get the bottled stuff. But if one lives in an area where the water is good, dont waste the money!

DC's water is dreadful, I will give you that. Depending on where you get your water from, you can have the good stuff from Tridelphia or Rocky Gorge reservoirs, or the bilge from DC. Sounds like you got the latter.

Bottled water has it's place. But for a majority of folks, they'd be better off drinking what comes from the tap. If you have bad well water, get a water cooler and buy the big jugs. You save money and arent tossing a bottle after every drink.

Yeah, and their apologists leap into the same great, deep, foetid vat of ignorance when they make this pathetic argument: "No, no, see, it's 'could care less' because it's, like, sarcasm, and stuff, and like, they're saying they could care less, but they, like, really mean they couldn't care less...see...'cause...like, well...just...yeah."

your cologne. Less is more. None is best.

Agree.

Why do people insist on buying bottled water

Because "Evian" spelt backwards is "Naive".

What did people do before cell phones?

Survived just fine, amazingly enough. Not that you'd know it to see people nowtimes.

why a 4-lane stretch of highway must come to a screeching halt just because there is one car on the side of the road with it's hood open.

Because of the sheeople instinct.

Er...
