I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue my Livejournal 'paid account'. I have only made one phone post, never created a poll or used most of the other features save for the extra userpics and an occasional search. My paid status was an "anonymous" gift from a very sweet and studly friend who did so in order to keep me around during a time when I deleted my journal and was ready to give it up save for reading my friend's entries. It would have happened except in deleting my blog I lose access to that friend's list.

So, I put it out to y'all. Do you have a paid account and enjoy it's features regularly, or would you settle for a free account once again? I'm on the fence but leaning towards renewing so far.

I really like LJ, and I'm thinking of getting a paid account, just to help cover their operating costs.

But from a practical point of view, based on usage, I couldn't justify it. I'm like you. I really never use any of the features that come with a paid subscription.

Some people would argue the value of extra icons is worth it then. Is it, to you?

I neeeeeed my icons. I'm running short now and may have to buy a few extra.

I've made a few polls. No phone posts. I think I'd have to have a really good reason to go back to free account.

I know other people seem to enjoy my paid account with extra features... perhaps more than I do. :p

I would get a paid account simply to support the system.

I haven't yet, because at the moment I'm not getting too terribly much out of it. As a tool for making or strenghening friendships it has fallen short of my expectations and I'm considering dropping it altogether.

If I found that I was getting something out of it I'd get a paid account. I just feel it's the right thing to do.

I can go with just paying for the extra icons and save a bit, but if I do that, I might as well go for full paid status. I do like having more userpics, and in fact, I'd like to have more at times.

Decisions, decisions. :-/

I have a paid account just for the user pics and the journal style and I would rather support live journal than say some shallow personals site so people can ogle over my goodies ;) but that's just me. At least here, we're provided a springboard for thought provocation and a great place to learn about others. for that alone, I would give them money :)

Too bad you didn't spring for the permanent account then... then you'd not have to worry about cost, etc.

One thing that happens in the background that used to be an issue with me previously is that paid people have priority in access and posting versus the free users, so it makes the reading and posting work better during heavy usage. Dunno if that is still the case.

I like what LJ has brought to me, and to me, the 25 bucks is well worth it if it were mandatory. It's tough deciding during the summer months when I am not online to much!

I learned about that the day after it had ended. I would have done it most likely. Perhaps if they offer it again.

I agree with supporting the system. I didnt think I would get much out of this either, but after a while something seemed to have 'happened' and I connected with people. Still, my involvement comes and goes with this thing, like during the summer when I am not online much. I do feel a bit of comfort knowing it's there, however.

In your case, I'd hang in there for a while, I didnt know how much it meant to myself until I discovered how much my blog apparently meant to others. I enjoy reading your entries and wish I was closer so we could do some motoring. :)

I haven't left. I still see something there. I'm just not posting a lot.

My poor MINI just sits in the garage. I drive her maybe 150-200 miles a month. She gets dusted more often than washed. Living in SF you just really don't need a car.

Still, I love my MINI and never hesitate to buy more stuff for it. I finally got the flag mirror covers :-)

Meh. I used to buy little $5 accounts here and there just to find people in my area. I would never use the extra features so I don't pay. I'm not sure about the whole priority access thing. LJ has never been slow for me but I only get on it late at night.

I recently reverted to a free account again since I am quite short on cash right now. I don't miss it. Who cares if you have 15 icons, it makes no difference in the content of your journal, and isn't that what it's all about? I rarely ever posted a poll and I don't see the reason for phone posts really, so for now I will use the free account until I can afford to spend the money for a paid one again.

I had to make this decision recently and decided to go ahead with the paid account. Suddenly, now I'm busy with other things and spending much less time online, so I'm not sure it was a good choice.

It's really not a lot of money. I've spent more at a trip to the movies. That's, like, two hours of entertainment. The same money can be a contribution toward something that gives a lot more to a huge number of people.

So, yeah, I'm in favor of paid accounts.

I have, on occasion, made a poll, or an e-mail entry; however, I really keep the paid journal for two reasons:

1.) I get so much out of LJ tha I feel I should give something back, and
2.) I don't want to give up my H*R iconage. *lol*

It's not expensive and it helps keep the site going. Also the priority posting access for paid members is nice (and I believe that yes, it is still in effect).

I like the paid acct. in that I can use some of the cooler customizeable features, and the extra icons are fun...I figure for $20/year, its worth it. If it was a MONTHLY billing, I'd say no way.

I have a paid account (actually a perm one) not for the features but because I wanted to support the site. So, I don't really use the special features much. I've done a couple of polls, though.

JOhn.

Well

paid accts get a lot more than just more icons.

You can make your own stylesheet/custom look for LJ.
Polls.
Voice postings.

AND
you help keep the company in business.

You can pay as little as five dollars (that's a cheap meal from Taco Bell) and get 2 months paid service from LJ. Try that for a fit; if you like it you could renew for a year.
