Looks like Ford Motor Co. has pulled a Microsoft and reconsidered turning it's back on LGBT media advertising. As many of you have undoubtedly heard, FoMoCo caved in to pressure from the gay-hating American "Family" Association to stop advertising in various LGBT media as well as any other sponsorship of gay-related events or causes. It did not take long for the LGBT groups to rally together (especially after the AFA and other brainless religious nutcases were trumpeting their victory) and get them to reconsider. Volvo, a Ford division of late, was the main sponsor of the HRC National Dinner a while back that Jeff and I attended. So, I guess we won a small battle in an ever increasing war being waged against us by The Hateful Christers. Let's hope to continue in this vein.

So they did change their minds, then?

Yes, and judging by the tone of the letter (see edited post for link) they are smarting a bit with their tail tucked low. Hopefully this will serve notice to other companies being pressured by AFA and their ilk not to cave into pressure from hate groups. The PR nightmare that will follow is worse than any gains they might have gotten by caving into the pressure.

I thought of you the other night at a book exchange with a group of girls I know; one of the books presented was titled "10 Reasons Why Evolution is a Myth". Ahhhhhh how I love those fundies.

Ford only pulled advertising for their Land Rover and Jaguar lines. As The Daily Show quipped, it will only impact rich gays and lesbians who like cars always in the garage with electrical problems.

Heh.

I heard this on NPR yesterday and my first thought was they did the math for what a boycott by the, and I quote, "AFA and other brainless religious nutcases" (btw: LOVE the quote!) would cost and the GLBT community.

Lesse: parcel of kids vs. no kids (well, other than the pampered cat/dog)
10% of income gone to tithing vs. not
etc.
etc.

I enjoyed the release from Ford wherein they stated they were doing this to "Remove ambiquity," like someone had accidentally left some waxy yellow build up on the floor and someone else had just noticed it.

Wonder how much turn over they've experianced in the PR department this week?
