Dec. 9th, 2003 05:34 pmOkay, I knew I wasnt crazy when my monitor on my desk began shaking and the dog got all antsy. There WAS an earthquake centered in Virginia. It had an effect all the way here in MD.
Is this California, or what?

Date: 2003-12-09 02:42 pm (UTC)The strongest earthquake ever felt in North America was in southern Illinois on the New Madrid fault in the mid 1800's. It was about an 8.7 in magnitude, rang church bells in Boston, and changed the path of the Mississippi river in one section. That is actually still a very active fault line, with small temors about every 2 years, although I felt the 5.0 one in 1987 while I was living in the Chicago area. That one was felt in 16 different states.....

Date: 2003-12-09 05:05 pm (UTC)Several years ago there was a string of mini-quakes here. Tiny things that sounded like distant sonic booms or a gust of wind against a window. Most of these were centered just a few miles up the road from me. Seems there is some kind of solidified magma deposits making up a kind of fault line (I think they are call diabase dikes? Dunno. I'll let the geologists among us answer that. lol).
I think it's just Mother Earth being pissed.
