Think your car is essentially theft-proof simply because your key is equipped with an embedded transponder chip? Think again.

In other news, I am trying to tie up so many loose ends regarding Mom, and I feel I am making good progress so far. It's not easy by any means, nor is it a short-term process. I am still not finished notifying some of her friends, since I cannot locate their names/numbers, etc. I dread that phone call I will inevitably get asking to talk to her and I will have to break the news. :-(

One of the many diversions I have been engaged in to keep from dwelling on the bad stuff is a home theater PC. Other than it's own huge data drives, it's done, and working better than expected. My previous project PC has not faired as well, I have determined that the motherboard is bad. I will most likely update it with something newer and more capable someday. No hurry, I got lots of other things to do.

I've had to deal with that dreaded phone call a few times over the past couple of months with John's passing. We both shared a common trait in that our personal phone books consists of scraps of paper and backs of business cards tucked into drawers.

Although, I will readily admit that telling his sister was by far the hardest call I had to make. Due to the sudden nature of his death, she had no time to prepare.

It's good that you're trying to keep busy. That has helped me a great deal. When I have "down time" between projects is when I start feeling sad.

Hugs,
James

I knew the keys weren't 100%, but having had two cars stolen back in the days of the 5 second GM steering column I knew they were probably as close as they could come. To hear of claims being denied as if it were foolproof surprises me. Makes you want to keep the valet key in the ash tray or something just so you can explain away why the car isn't there. At the very least don't admit having all your keys.

Good you are making progress on your Mom's stuff. I've done a lot of that this year when I had to move my mother into the retirement place. It freaks me to have emptied her house and now I'm selling it. A lot of the same emotions, but only a fraction of the loss. Keep going :-)

Wish there was somethin' I could recommend that would make the 'dreaded phone call' easier to deal with, bud. Stay strong, on that end. On the computer project front, wanna come tinker with ours? Screw MTV...I want my WoW! Hope all continues to go well (or psuedo-well) for you. *bearhugs you*

Sending positive thoughts your way, Phil. And hugs.

(Pretty much all transponder keys have done is make additional or replacement keys exponentially more expensive)

I agree with you on the cost of replacement keys.

When my keys were stolen, the cost was $75 per key plus a flat $80 to reprogram the keys.

At least with Ford or GM, the owner is able to reprogram their own key, but not Honda.
