For those Livejournal peeps who have paid accounts, head over here to nab an extra week of paid service due to the snafus last week that made the site flaky or downright unusable.

I am currently using the uber PC with RAM I stole borrowed from my work PC. So far, so good, and it means I simply need to get replacement RAM from Corsair. In the meantime, my work PC will plod along minus a gig of RAM. Just to be safe, though, I backed up files I have accumulated in the short month or so this machine has been running. Incredibly enough, it was over 7.5 gig of files. The two terabytes I have in each of the recently built PCs is evidently a requirement.

I'm currently trying to install Debian on my mighty palmtop- it's not cooperating, but it shall be bludgeoned into submission. With a whopping 32Mb of RAM, 8GB flash drive and speedy 206Mhz processor it should fly. Like a brick.

This is that PC. I started building it last winter. I was not in a huge hurry to complete it. Around springtime I had enough parts to make it happen. WHile it worked, it was flaky. I could not fix the problem doing anything obvious, and when I checked forums relating to the hardware (mobo specifically) I came to the conclusion that the mobo was bad, it was a known issue with it. About that time I got involved with Mom's health issues that came up, and the PC was put aside. It stayed that way until recently, when my previous 'main' PC bit the dust and I needed to get the new one going. Instead of trying to get 'last year's' hardware going, I got a socket AM2 Athlon X2 4600, a new mobo (Asus Crosshair) and two gigs of DDR2 memory. This, along with the previous hardware (a pair of EVGA 7800GTX KO vid cards, a Soundblaster X-Fi Elite sound card, and all the other goodies became the 'new' PC. The RAM took it upon itself to conk out for some reason, but that was just a minor setback. Still I cant help feel that this thing is somehow cursed at times, even though it's behaving itself right now.
