Okay, forget about my last post. Apparently it was enough to cause a couple de-'friend'-ings because I did not speak of the latest Apple product in dulcet tones, bathed in glorious warm lighting in soft focus and placed on red velvet pillows. For the record, I think it's a cool device, like most Apple products. It's just not for me. Too expensive, and besides, I am stuck with Verizon. And if anyone has an issue with my game of 'Blackberry Bowling', rest assured, I let those people run into me. I dont actively go plowing into them. I solely brace myself for the impact.

I'd say something about keeping my opinions to myself, but this is my territory. I guess I will simply keep it in here from now on.

If this isn't the place for your opinions, then no place is, and that's too depressing to contemplate.

There are a few times where I do hold back, not necessarily to stifle my opinion, but to not totally explode all over various friends lists. Still, when there is something on my mind, I will generally speak it.

Anyone who can't take you speaking your mind on your own blog is a jerk, and (IMO) someone you're well rid of. If you'd gone and blasted the iPhone on the blog of someone who was spooging over it, that would be a different situation.

I'm getting a certain amount of similar pushback, and I stand firm: the non-user-replaceable battery is a major fuckup, period.

Date: 2007-01-11 04:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com
Sure the battery is user replaceable, you just have to be a very technically adept user.

Of all Apple announcements, this one has the most steam of any as far as LJ goes. Everyone is talking about it, and not all discussions are civil.

Its your blog.. and your opinion.

if no one likes what you have to say they can debate it with you.. or just simply not read it.

DO NOT censor opinion. This space is for you to tell it like it is.

its a cool phone.. but I do agree with what you said.. and honestly I won't be one of the first ones rushing to buy this phone.

Some wing nut de-friended you over what appeared to me to border on satire. WTF? Yeaj, Yeah, yeah, some more new consumer heroin. Oh Boy! BFD.

I. Don't. Care. that there's yet another piece of overpriced electronics available and poised to be outdated next week. I don't! and I can't believe that NPR devoted 5+ minutes this morning to Steve Jobs holding court. Jobs ain't God. That's right. You read it right.

Say your piece man! What ever it is, say it without reserve. Someone scratches you from their list, it's probably actually a good thing to learn now how shallow they are instead of later. And good riddance to them. (*spits*)

I never claimed to be a Disney cartoon either. I can sometimes be harsh, especially with all I have been through lately. I dont know what it is exaclty that brings people to my blog, but I have a better idea overall. Most people have come to expect honesty from me. Still, some things are treading on delicate grounds. It's easier to mock religion than it is to take on gadgets. ;)

And those who think Apple and all is like, God or something needs to get real and realize it's not all peaches and cream - especially on the consumer end of their products, like having to send anything back for repairs, even if just to replace a POS battery that we the user should be able to replace ourselves.

I'm with you on your sentiments and also agree that this here journal of yours is for your thoughts and your thoughts alone my friend.

Having been run over, run down, or run off the road in hallways, parking lots and highways by various freaks to busy with their handheld widget to bother looking the fuck UP, I heartily applaud your hallway bowling habits. Hell, I think it should be promoted as a National Sport to increase the awareness that "your fucking gizmo does NOT give you the right of way."

You got defriended over standing your ground (however aggresively)?

Lame! (on them, obviously)

I am far less of a pushover than I was in my younger years, and I still think I have a bit more to go in that respect. I just cant get over how bad the phenomenon is. Cell phones and blackberries have become more annoying than boorish smoker's cigarettes.

How... immature?

Sure, I don't agree with a lot of people in my flist, but to defriend them just because they posted a strongly held opinion? *boggle*

And personally, I'm kinda annoyed that this happened over an Apple product 'cause that will just make us Mac-heads look even more deranged than we already do. :-(

Not that it matters much in the grand scheme of things, but I wouldn't defriend someone over upholding their opinion. Direct attacks on me, my loved ones, or people I care about? Yes. Stating why you aren't interested in the latest gadget? Give me a break.

JOhn.

Well, screw 'em, Phil! I view Apple products and Apple lovers sort of like lesbians and coffeehouses...I love many lesbians, I love lots of coffeehouses, but put lesbians and coffeehouses together and they become raving territorial hyenas who cackle their superiority to those who don't pay attention and don't really care. So, what's an Apple I-Phone and why should I care? *GRIN*

Hope the joint housekeeping is settling in well...happy that it's happening!

Odd you would associate lesbians with Apple.

Ditto on the Unitary Household front.

So, what's an Apple I-Phone and why should I care?

A hyper-accessorized cell phone. You shouldn't unless you have more money than brains. Wait for v2.0 or later.

damn drama queens. lol. I'm with you, the iphone is nice, but way too expensive. I don't need all those features either. The razr started at $600 and look at it now. Maybe with high quantities, the price will drop.

Date: 2007-01-11 05:09 am (UTC)

Apple prices tend to not fall very much. Still, others will pick up on features, and it makes for healthy competition.

OMG! You didn't sing Holy Hosannas to the Haute Couture House of Jobs?

Probably better off without them if they can't deal with an opinion that competes with theirs.

OK, the UI may turn out to be revolutionary. But there are a number of hardware missteps that may turn off consumers in the long run.

I was also unimpressed

This IS your blog... it IS where you can keep your opinions. Sounds to me that these DE-friends have some really deep emotional disorders for their attachments to shiny techno crap.

But it's a good weeding out process.

Hell, I had the mind of a "dittohead" when I was reading your post about Blackberry Bowling--only since Blackberrys are rare around here, I was imagining it with suburban soccer moms and B.A.P.s distracted by their cell phones.

These Apple-obsessed folks are weird. Next thing you know, one will actually have to *like* this Gorillaz crap I keep seeing on the iPod ads.

I loved your Blackberry Bowling post - fuck anyone without a sense of humour and self-perspective.

We have a name for the wanky uber-obsessed gadget freaks here, Nathan Barleys (from TVGoHome and a brief series) - they MUST like the Apple freaks have the latest gadget and don't understand those who don't fawn over technoPr0n.

I too have had my membership of the Apple fanbears torn up, not because I'm a Mac-hater as they think - but because I'm an informed Mac hater (I use them every day for work, and hate all computers equally so never agree with devotion PC/Mac or Unix...)

Keep on, that post made me laugh and agree with you - like those with wheeled luggage and prams, it seems wanking with a gadget seems to override brains in those walking...

Naw - don't change a thing. Be you, and let the people who don't like that go away. They obviously liked you for something other than who you were inside.

As far as the Blackberry bowling goes, it's not your job to ensure the safety of people who are too stupid to watch where they're going. It's not particularly nice to run into them, but it's not amoral, either. What *I* do is simply stand still and let them run into my shoulder. It lacks the shock value of yelling as you run into them, but it also removes any guilt by turning me into a passive participant.

Just a thought. Keep on being you.
