Jeff starts his new job this coming Monday. He's excited, which is very cool to see given his last job turned out to be a complete nightmare. There is one aspect of his new job (an Executive Chef position that will morph into a teaching position) that upset me. He had to ditch the beard he has had since, well, forever. It's gonna take some getting used to. He can keep a 'stache, at least. The initial shock was tempered somewhat by those incredibly pinchable cheeks. He's going to hafta get used to that. ;)

In other news, still waiting (increasingly less) patiently for the truck to arrive at the dealership. 8-|

It boggles the mind that there are still employers that require people to shave their beard off. It makes absolutely no sense and there is zero justification for it, other than "because we said so."

Congrats to him, in any case.

Well - in a restaurant I can see patrons being pissed at finding a beard hair in their food.

However, it does stink on ice that his new employer is apparently unaware that beard-nets exist to prevent that problem without savaging a man's follicles.

Yeah, that's what I mean.

It's sort of like being asked to remove your fingernails. Even if you keep them neat and clean and use gloves.

As if there isnt a problem with cranial hair ending up in food. By their line of thinking, food service people should take on the grooming habits of Hare Krishnas.

It's mostly a case of conformity and the appearance (versus the reality) of 'cleanliness'. There are plenty of chefs, cooks and other foodies with facial hair.

The Mount Vernon Hotel. It serves duty also as housing for students of the Baltimore International Culinary College. The hotel is undergoing renovation and the kitchens will also become a working classroom setting.

LOL

I need another vacation. Thing is, it looks like there will be no trailer and a huge hassle to deal with unless I can sort out vehicle issues before then.

Pinch them for me! I have not talked to Jeff in several months. I'm happy for his new job. Give him a hug and tell him HI from Jamie.

I totally don't understand this mentality of no beards at work, yes, there are times and places for that, for safety etc but in general, no.

And an executive can't have a beard? Come on! That's the most rediculous thing I've heard. I've also heard that one does not look professional with a beard etc while wearing a suit, um, that does not compute either.

I don't know where this crackpot idea came from but it stinks. Glad he can keep the 'stache though.

It's corporate conformity more than anything else.
