On the way across the parking lot after work yesterday I twisted my ankle. Not thinking much of it, the ankle did not bother me much more than it usually does (I have Achilles tendinitis in my left ankle). Well, upon waking up this morning, I could not put any weight on that foot. Crap. So, I have been popping pain killers and hobbling around the house hoping it would loosen up some. So far, not much luck.

I had to take Kodi out earlier today, so I used that chance to take a couple quick pics of my new, wet truck in the rain:

Those with eagle eyes or too much time on their hands can try and spot reflections of shirtless me in the photos. Yay for hidden bonus beefcake.

Of course, my first installed accessory was the crossover toolbox in the bed. I've had these in every truck I have owned, and despite having all the room in the cab rear now, I still make bigtime use of the extra space the toolboxes provide. Yeah, tools go in there from time to time, but it's a great place for greasy, dirty or smelly parts, tools and stuffs. I have other goodies sitting around that finally have a home in the new truck, I hope to get them installed soon. What kills me about this thing is the high-riding look over pizza-cutter wheels. That needs some taking care of in the near future.

Bro see a doctor! sometimes a twisted ankle can be a hairline break. At least do the boy scout thing with something the size of a scout neck scarf and tie it up keeping the ankle from moving.

here is how!

any chance you got ice on the ankle right after you injuried it?
Heal up Bro!

Pete

I'm just staying off of it for the day, so far, so good.

Loose the pain killers before you really hurt yourself. Soak it in ice water and bring down the swelling. If it doesn't improve in a day or so head for the doctors office man. Nice truck

Trust me, I am not popping them like Rush Limbaugh at a rave. I'm staying off it and it's getting better already.

Dude! I thought you were going with the Ram?

VERY nice truck, though. I'm a Chevy man, myself.

I was. The current Ram is nice, but past due for a redesign. The Cummins engine IMO is still the one to beat out of the big three offerings. The Dodge is not due for a redesign for a couple more years. If they live up to the growing hype and I agree, I might trade up. I liked these new Chevys when I saw them, the Duramax in it's current form is decent, and the Allison trans is well proven (not to mention made in my home state).

I guess I wanted something different. Two of my close friends have these as well, and Jeff's '00 S-10 has not been a pain. I recently replaced the intake manifold gaskets, driver's side hinge pins, the rear door door release handle and the transfer case shift motor. Other than those things, it's been just normal maintenance. It's just shy of 100k miles.

I have Vehicular Bipolar Disorder. X-D

I did that with Expedition and a MINI. Too expensive to have two cars in the city tho. I just manage on my natural bipolar disorder for thrills.

What's funny is I could park the Expedition perfectly. Between the lines and the right distance from the curb, every time. Having been in the construction industry for years I've usually had huge trucks. I can't park the MINI for shit. I'm always too far away from the curb (I think I'm wider and I'm paranoid of curb rash) and I can't judge where the front and back are lining up (is there really a hood up there?). Half the time I have to go back and realign. I feel stupid.

I find myself being too scared to park close to the curb with the MINI, given the expensive wheels and all. Backing up is odd too. I always think I am closer than I am. Go figure. I drove a convertible for a while, that was even worse!

*blush*

Why thank you. lol

Yeah, the thing is huge. But I got it to serve a few purposes, and it generally wont be a daily driver (though it is comfortable as all get out). Despite it's size and skinny tires, it handles remarkably good, the mileage is improving, and in stock form the 365hp and 660lb/ft allow it to be rather spry in traffic. After break-in I intend to tune those numbers up significantly. ;)

Do I even *want* to know the MPG?

Date: 2007-08-22 12:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] greatbearmd.livejournal.com
I have yet to reset the avg. fuel economy reading, so it has the average since it was built, and the around-town driving and 'acceleration tests'. Still, it's steadily rising, and shows about 14.5 now. It's not uncommon for beasts like this with the Duramax to get 20-22 in steady highway cruising, and even more when babied. Friends of mine with the gas motors get less than I am currently in normal driving. I would not have gotten a big truck without a diesel. If my old Dodge can get 18mpg no matter how I drive it, and a bit over 12 hauling the big trailer around, I am happy.

The kicker is that without lifting the hood, I can tune the engine for 100+ more hp and 200lb-ft more torque just by reprogramming the ECU. Granted, it's additional strain on the components, but it's built to take it. And unlike tuning a gas motor for more power and losing mpg in the process, oftentimes the mods made to a diesel increase the power dramatically, yet improve the mileage as well. I'm going to wait about tuning this thing up for a while, it's got lots of scoot power as it is!

Nice looking rig and I like the color, but dayum, you are right, it's indeed a huge one. My best friend's oldest brother has a similar version, but in silver.

I will agree, very comfy and I rode in it the day we had to tow my Ranger to Bremerton to have the clutch fixed last Dec.

One thing though, I don't like how the did the ends of the front bumper on it however. Too honky and out of scale to the rest of the truck IMO.

I call those 'chunky bumpers'. The inset fog lights make it not quite as bad, but that whole bumper arrangement was my least liked thing about the truck. If the lower part of the center bumper was chromed, it would not be as bad.

From: [identity profile] ciddyguy.livejournal.com
Or at least leave the lower section all the way across black, and have just the top part chromed might work well too.

The 1500 series has the option of body colored bumper ends which are not so outrageous. The different front ends on the HDs make the chucnky bumpers even larger.
