Old man take a look at yourself

The other day, I caught my reflection in a window. Something didnt seem right. Later that day, in the bathroom mirror, I noticed that the face staring back at me was somehow unfamiliar. I mean, it's my face and all that. But then it dawned on me. I look much older. It seems the last few years of stress and loss have taken their toll, and it probably put ten years on my visage, let alone my increasingly creaking body.

I can expect my AARP card in about four years.

Seeing the old man in the mirror mostly put me in a funk for the rest of the day, but I kinda got over it soon enough. I just have to do things that make me feel young, like acting silly on occasions and listening to that confounded rock and roll music that's been the soundtrack to all those years. I'm not ready for the old folk's home. Yet.

What should I do to keep from geezin'?

Well, I always tell myself that getting older sure beats the alternative! I am also diligently working to find the joy in my life again. I will not become beaten down and cynical just because I'm in my fifth decade:)

Don't get trapped in that obsession of youth crap.Youth is not all it's cracked up to be.We all did it and now you get to do this,enjoy it to the fullest and reap the rewards of your age.I am and I'm enjoying every fucking minute of it! I'll be 59 in a couple months .I ride my motorcycles all over the god damn place ,camp out in a tent,still build old cars ,work hard ,have all kinds of sex and am happy that I won't be here when there are 10 billion people crowded on a degraded Earth fighting for food & water.We came along at just the right time in history so enjoy it 'cause we might be the last generation that gets this privilege .I just lost a buddy of mine .He rode bikes and collected them as well.The guy lived every minute of his life never stopping and wallowing in any of this "I'm getting old shit" . He died riding his motorcycle, that lucky bastard!He was 76

Ya know, I've thought along those lines a lot lately. Things are not going to get any easier as far as the world situation. If it's not blown up sooner, I feel that the youngest these days will end up with a huge mess on their hands when they become our age. That will be the test to see if they have been listening to anyone telling them how to make it right, and if they have it in them to take control of the world for the best.

The way I look at it is that I have earned every damned one of these nearly 60 years! On top of that, I can easily wipe the floor with many a younger guy, and probably more than one at a time. (is that self centered or what?) I've always preferred my fruit fully ripe instead of the starchy tartness of the immature. That said, there is nothing wrong with pampering your vanity if it makes you feel good. Go to a spa. I can attest to the full treatment at a place like Nickel spa for men in Chelsea or here in San Francisco does wonders for the psyche. If the aging of your skin is a bit much for you to handle, then seek the advice of a dermatologist or someone who specializes in skin care. I find the idea of wanting to get one's youth back is kind of frightening, it was hard enough the first time around. Granted, I've only seen photographs, but from what I can tell, you still look mighty fine!

I know how you feel. I remember looking in the mirror and seeing my Dad looking back at me. it was scary but also made me quite proud.

"Playing old" can be lots of fun. I have a lot of fun with it now. Plus I find some HAWT young guys really dig old bearded grandpa looking guys like me, so who's to argue with that?

If I make it to retirement home age, I plan on being a rather unique pain in the ass. These days, I have yet to hear strains of heavy metal floating down the halls of the old folk's home. That's so gonna change in another 40 years if I have a say in it. ;)

that was a very inspiring string of comments. though i am certainly not old i have noticed that michigan is aging me significantly faster than the tropics. my answer to that? fuck it. seriously...if the youth obsessed kids who think that i look old are truly lucky they may get to BE me one day. they shudder when i tell them that, and i laugh heartily. i earned every grey hair and have survived with elan. i now think of them as my sparkly party hairs.
