Recent political events sure are bordering on bipolar, arent they? Hot on the heels of one of the most eloquent acceptance speeches in decades comes the announcement of McCain's veep choice. While I initially had my "WTF!" moment, I decided to test it on my knuckle-dragging cow orkers. Sure enough, most were thinking with their dicks and saying how this has cemented their vote, blah blah. I really wanted to use my lunch break for a trip up the road to one of the local foundries for a big ladle-full of molten aluminum to bring back with me to pour into the crotches of these apes. Being that I did not want to take another trip to return the empty foundry ladle, I decided against the trip. Seriously, I think this country gets what it deserves when the stupid are allowed a say in important matters.

But, anyway.

The weather here has been delightfully cool and rainy for a change. The yard is parched, the gardens in serious need of weeding, and I've a three day weekend ahead of me. We had planned a big cookout for tomorrow, but we postponed it due to disinterest, back-outs and scheduling conflicts. Hmm, shades of a part of this post. Jeff and I will most likely scoot off the the MD State Fair tomorrow barring too much rain for some bad-for-you fairgrounds food as a break. I guess I will have more pictures of disinterested livestock, too-cute baby animals, the occasional hot farmer types and crowd shots among the exhibitions and rides. I'll be sure to wear a dark shirt in order to look like a crazed cocaine addict after clawing my way through too-hot funnel cake piled high with 10-X confectioner's sugar.

Speaking of state fairs (and sugar), Jeff and I will be in PA for theirs, but for reasons different than the above for a change. We have tix to see Sugarland perform, which should be a lot of fun. While I might seek my sustenance on progrock and metal, it's good to have a diverse taste in music. Besides, Sugarland kicks serious ass in my book.

Speaking of Pennsylvania, Jeff managed to snag eBay tix for the Penn State football game. Jeff liiikes Penn State. I enjoy the occasional football game too. But, I become a football widow for these next several months as Jeff watches televised Penn State and Cowboy games since I dont enjoy the game on TV as much.

And since my entries arent complete without some geekery of sorts, my god box server has been fitted with it's 21st and final internal hard drive and should soon start accumulating the last bits in order to make it more than a gutless wonder. For some dumb reason, instead of building this one from the motherboard on out, this one started collecting hard drives, optical drives, fans, media readers and the bigass power supply before the real working guts. It looks complete from the outside, but inside is nothing more than a pile of drives and fans. Silly me, I spose.

Remind me not to purchase a mATX motherboard from Foxconn in my next PC, they are the shits. The one I have I bought new in 2004 and contained an integrated video w/ 32MB of shared memory and I found out this past spring that the audio is sharing the south bridge bus so that sucked as far as video performance. W/ my old video and audio cards reinstalled, the PC I have now, complete w/ a 2.8G P4 processor does OK for what I have, which includes Photoshop and Premier elements.

Most of them will be dedicated to RAID arrays for automated and redundant backups. But taken individually, it's 10.3 TB of magnetic plattery goodness.

I bought a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (say that with a mouthful of crackers) micro-ATX mobo a while ago. This in a socket AM2 board, and it has very good (gamer-class, actually) integrated video with dual monitor capability, DVI and HDMI with audio and HDCP plus analog VGA, good 8 channel audio built in with digital and optical outputs, firewire, 12 total USB ports, six SATA ports, PCIe x16 slot for graphics that can be also teamed with the onboard, four memory slots, all solid capacitors and a lot of other goodies. I never liked totally integrated boards until this one, it does everything and at a decent price. I stuffed it into a small Foxconn case with a DVD everything drive, a hard drive, a media reader/floppy drive along with 2 gig of RAM and a Athlon X2-4600 that got left behind during an upgrade and it's a tidy little machine that does about everything I ask of it. In fact, it's worked so well I've been putting off fixing the main PC as a result.

Cool. I just realized later on that not all mATX boards are created equal and that some are fantastic, but not this POS I have tho.

the next board I get will have SATA (now standard), at least 2 G if not more of memory and a dual core processor and nothing less.
