Well, I was supposed to be up in Pennsylvania right now at the Sugarland concert, but that was canceled. Apparently the singer fell ill and the show was called off. We found information to obtain refunds for the tickets, hopefully that goes off without a hitch. It's a shame, I was looking forward to the show, we were also bringing Jeff's Mom and Dad along with us. Since the weather turned to suck and my ankle in complete pain, we skipped the trip to PA and the state fair (where Sugarland was performing) and will instead take care of things here at home.

I blew up at FedEx today for once again failing to leave a package due to "Customer not available or business closed". This is bullshit, because someone was home all day, and both of us were eating dinner at the time of the supposed delivery attempt. No door tag or anything was left, so it was more a case of the driver wanting to get back home early.

I'm looking forward to the presidential debates tonight, as long as they dont get canceled at the last minute. I have a feeling the debate will consist of nothing but pre-rehearsed, softball questions and topics.

In a political vein, I present to you an elite view of the political process in action, showing highly regarded individuals voicing their opinions in the candidates and issues:

After getting a couple notices through LJ regarding recent 'defriendings', mostly people that I had no idea they had friended me in the first place, I delved into my list and found quite a bit of turnover and additions. Who knew that there would be this much interest in my mostly random blatherings? To all of you just tuning in, welcome! For some reason, I did not get notice of y'all's arrival in most cases.

Jeff and I went to the Maryland State Fair today. This is our chance to wander around, eating food of questionable and downright negative health benefits (deep-fried Oreos!), people-watch, animal-watch, take pictures, eat more bad food (mmmm, cheese fries), see the competitions, pick up free swag, make fun of certain booths (Jews for Jesus, the Republican Party) and eat too much. It's rather pleasant to walk around the 4H building and see all of the crafts, food, art, clothing and whatnot that people make and grow. There are still lots of creative and self-sufficient people in the state in this day-and-age of having everything commercially available. I can relate to this, and it gives me a bit of hope that not everyone mindlessly consumes and their only output is carbon dioxide.

Two things have become very apparent at these fairs. One is that most of the arcades have something Family Guy-related as prizes. Various sized stuffed Stewies and Brians, etc. Another is the preponderance of ass. Big ass. And not of the mule or donkey style. People with incredibly large behinds. While I might not have that much room to talk, and a good portion of my bear-identified readership might cast a scowl in my direction, we have nothing on these derrieres. I like big butts, I cannot lie, but these giant rearends are too much even for me. The previous two observances fit together, though, as shown by this video:

Ever since first seeing that episode, this tune haunts me in certain situations.

I am WAY behind in my photo posting since the beginning of summer. PC troubles don't help matters either, but I have finally equipped the backup PCs with enough software to get the job done. Expect to see my Flickr account start to fill up soon.

Tomorrow is a holiday for me, so yay. Unfortunately, Jeff has to work, but we have a Labor Day gethering to attend, and Jeff will be making some food to bring along. Hooray for last summer get-togethers.

Recent political events sure are bordering on bipolar, arent they? Hot on the heels of one of the most eloquent acceptance speeches in decades comes the announcement of McCain's veep choice. While I initially had my "WTF!" moment, I decided to test it on my knuckle-dragging cow orkers. Sure enough, most were thinking with their dicks and saying how this has cemented their vote, blah blah. I really wanted to use my lunch break for a trip up the road to one of the local foundries for a big ladle-full of molten aluminum to bring back with me to pour into the crotches of these apes. Being that I did not want to take another trip to return the empty foundry ladle, I decided against the trip. Seriously, I think this country gets what it deserves when the stupid are allowed a say in important matters.

But, anyway.

The weather here has been delightfully cool and rainy for a change. The yard is parched, the gardens in serious need of weeding, and I've a three day weekend ahead of me. We had planned a big cookout for tomorrow, but we postponed it due to disinterest, back-outs and scheduling conflicts. Hmm, shades of a part of this post. Jeff and I will most likely scoot off the the MD State Fair tomorrow barring too much rain for some bad-for-you fairgrounds food as a break. I guess I will have more pictures of disinterested livestock, too-cute baby animals, the occasional hot farmer types and crowd shots among the exhibitions and rides. I'll be sure to wear a dark shirt in order to look like a crazed cocaine addict after clawing my way through too-hot funnel cake piled high with 10-X confectioner's sugar.

Speaking of state fairs (and sugar), Jeff and I will be in PA for theirs, but for reasons different than the above for a change. We have tix to see Sugarland perform, which should be a lot of fun. While I might seek my sustenance on progrock and metal, it's good to have a diverse taste in music. Besides, Sugarland kicks serious ass in my book.

Speaking of Pennsylvania, Jeff managed to snag eBay tix for the Penn State football game. Jeff liiikes Penn State. I enjoy the occasional football game too. But, I become a football widow for these next several months as Jeff watches televised Penn State and Cowboy games since I dont enjoy the game on TV as much.

And since my entries arent complete without some geekery of sorts, my god box server has been fitted with it's 21st and final internal hard drive and should soon start accumulating the last bits in order to make it more than a gutless wonder. For some dumb reason, instead of building this one from the motherboard on out, this one started collecting hard drives, optical drives, fans, media readers and the bigass power supply before the real working guts. It looks complete from the outside, but inside is nothing more than a pile of drives and fans. Silly me, I spose.

SPent the weekend in PA with my 'extended family' once again. Saturday at the PA state fair was fun (I always have a good time at these things). I saw people from my neck of the woods there, and also spotted a coupla musclebears from a while ago from the weekend at The Woods. Eyeballed a truck that had my lustometer pegged ('06 Dodge Cummins 4wd 4-door) but came away pouting with a bad case of sticker shock ($42.8k! WTF?!?!!). At too much greasy fair food and had my heart stolen by a few puppies at the dog exhibit there. I so miss having a dog calling this it's home. In the meantime I am making do with 4 orange stray cats that called an old wrecked Dodge Shadow their home. The cats are too timid to make contact, yet they hang around the deck and yard all day and night (getting fed table scraps doesnt help matters much) Said Shadow is now downtown waiting for me to tear out everything useable and junk the rest. The thing sat around to over 5 years and all I needed to do to get rid of it was pull the mangled bodywork from around the one tire, add a battery and drive it off as if nothing was wrong. It did get some stares though, as this wreck was quietly tottering down the road with the left read side and back demolished.

Sunday me, Jeff and the entire PA family unit went towatch Jeff's nephew Cole play football. Even though this is elementary school, these kids are serious about their game. This was a critical game, as these were two undefeated teams playing together. It was rough. So rough that one kid had his arm broken, and Cole had to be sent to the hospital by ambulance after taking a huge hit to the head. Jeff rode with him in the ambo along with his mom, and I chased the ambulance to the hospital. This may not be my 'legal' extended family, but I still care about them as if they were (and they for me as well). Seeing Cole out cold on that field made my heart sink, and honestly, made me feel a bit helpless. Luckily, Cole is a tough kid, he's back home now, going to have some time off from playing until he sees his own pediatrician, and by the looks of things, will be back in the saddle in a week. Yep, only a week. That's cool.

Came home to more minor PC issues, so it's settled; construction of the next ridiculous monster PC starts this week. Specs so far:

Athlon64 Dual Core >3800
ABIT Fatal1ty AN8-SLI mobo
2 GeForce 7800-series vid cards in SLI
Koolance water cooling
Bigass HDs in RAID0, plus two bigass solo drives for 'data'
Creative X-Fi Platinum sound, plus something else for the studio stuff
other stuff for sure.

Since I cant afford the truck, of course.
