Driving home from work today I listened to Michelangelo Signorile interview the head of the Log Cabin Republicans, who officially endorsed John McCain as their candidate of choice. What followed was the same sound bites, the maverick thing, no real word about Palin, etc, etc. Signorile essentially tore the guy apart after he spoke his bit.

I still cant see the connection. Not. At. All.

In other news, seals have officially endorsed killer whales, snakes have endorsed mongooses (mongoose? mongeese??), Christians have endorsed lions and trees have lined up behind chipper/shredders.

I would also state the tired line about Jews endorsing Hitler, but the timeline is wrong.

Jews endorsing Hitler MIGHT be over the top, but I am reminded of the Jews who signed up for Reich-supporting roles, or even for cataloging their own.

What the hell is wrong with these people? I'm all for opposing political views, but gay people supporting Republicans in this day? My gods...

History describes how some Jews worked with the Third Reich in varying capacities, and they and their friends and families paid the ultimate price. While not nearly on the same level, for any gay folk to work within the party and it's platform as it is, they are throwing the whole gay community under the bus for either their own personal gain, or in some deluded quest for change.

I can see holding onto traditional conservative political ideals, but to put those ahead of their very lives? It's mental.

I don't get the Log Cabin Rebugnicans. What the hell are they? Whips and chains mavins? As a Str8oid, maybe I won't ever get it, but what is it about the Repugs that appeals to this sort of gay? Is it the diapers? Blow jobs in toilet stalls? What the hell is it? Just sayin'.

I can understand their liking the GOP views on taxes and less government regulation/interference in people's lives...I'm sure there are lots of gay run business' that would benefit from a GOP administration's views on taxes. I can't understand tho their overlooking the social costs associated with the right wing in the States.I've always also been mystified by Mary(?) Cheney working on her dad's campaign team....what the hell was she thinking supporting an administration that was thinking about using the constitution to discriminate against citizens of the US....?

The party as it stands now seeks to vilify gay Americans as less than second class citizens. Whatever benefit there would be in 'traditional' conservative ideals with regards to business and financial aspects is overrun by the far-right ideological monstrosity couched in the party platform. The Republican party, the force behind government today that is seeking reelection wants nothing to do with gays except mayby to be able to extract some money in political donations without any desire to speak for or otherwise stand for the gay public in any way. Besides, the Republican political machine greases it's gears with the hatred and fear of gays in general. Any of those gays thinking they are going to 'change the party from within' are sadly, clinically delusional. It's more like the Larry Craigs, David Vitters and whatnot having their own little world of denial.

The first 2 make US network news watching fun for us north of the border. We usually fly from Buffalo when we travel in the States and if I have to use the washroom...I make sure both feet are planted firmly on the ground within my own cubicle.
The Log Cabin boys had a table at the first bear bust I went to years ago...they seemed so lonely....

The root cause of the problem (IMNSHO) is that the US only allows two political parties to have power at one time. Throughout your history, when a third party has started, it has eventually merged with one of the others until there are only 2 left. Otherwise there could be a socially liberal, fiscally conservative party for those LCR's to join.
