I watched the debate. Or, the question and answer session, as the case may be. Obama did well, but did not always get to the root of some of the questions. I can live with that, especially since McCain was even more evasive. The format sucked IMO, it was not a debate in the classic sense, more of a simple Q&A with predetermined questions.

McCain looked more like a crotchety old man than ever. While he was trying to be engaging, it came off as stiff, contrived and aggravated. The feeling of anger was palpable as usual.

But what really lowered my opinion of McCain considerably (and I was really, really trying to keep an open mind during all of this) was at the end when he flat-out refused to shake Obama's hand. This proved without a doubt that the man is is a spoiled, poor sport and in no way presidential material. He'd be better off retired, sitting in a park and scaring off the pigeons.

And I figured some on my friends list would comment on the that retired CPO. ;)

I think the shook hands right at the end when Brokaw was giving his closing remarks but the cameras didn't catch it.
Later on when they were in a group Obama when to shake hands again and it seemed like McCain walked away but Cindy McCain was also in the middle, and that's who Obama ending shaking hands. It's not clear to me McCain was avoiding him.

It was a bit of an awkward scene, true. Even if the handshake did take place, the captured scene (already getting youtubed like mad) makes it look like McCain snubbed the handshake.

I just watched the replay on CNN. It looks like McCain popped over for a handshake at the very end while Tom Brokaw was still speaking.

I couldn't force myself to watch the debate live. I'll eventually watch all of the debates, but I just can't do it now. McCain and Palin just sicken me too much.

Yours is the second LJ entry I've seen today that mentioned the handshake moment.

I'm feeling better seeing all the most recent polls showing a LOT of momentum for Obama and McCain still in free-fall.

I just hope the newer polls don't encourage Obama supporters to slack off, or encourage the truly dangerous nutbars on the McCain-Palin side to get even more desperate and crazy.
