Some people

I missed a few days of work due in part to lower g.i. issues and other nonsense. I was out on Tuesday and Wednesday, which did have the benefit of allowing us to get out and vote in the early afternoon when the crowds (if any) would be minimal, which they were. I think the stress over the entire election also added to my malaise as well. But there was a pretty big part of me who was glad not to be at work during and after the elections. You see, I work with a bunch of racist troglodytes.

Upon forcing myself back into work in Thursday, I was greeted soon enough with a bunch of people still fuming because Obama had won. Most know that I was voting for O and knew my stance on neocons, the Republican party in general and my feelings on McCain and Palin, so, wisely no one got into my face directly. but for the rest of the day I came across discussions and people forwarding emails painting Obama in some seriously bigoted and nasty light. I mostly kept my mouth shut, except where I started baiting a couple of the guys just to ruffles their feathers even more. After I made it through the day I drove home stressed out more than ever. I ended up not being able to make it in today as a result. If I am questioned about the missed time, not only will I reiterate my health issues, but I will also bring up that I considered the goings-on as a hostile work environment. If the same nonsense is going on next week, I will put in a word to the HR department that I consider what's going on in there reprehensible and to put certain people on notice. Sad too when some of those needing some diversity smack-fu are the bosses themselves.

Old habits die hard I guess.

The company in general has been making humongous strides in diversity in recent years, and that's to be commended. When we had a mandatory 'diversity training' a couple years ago, the knuckle-draggers in the department were at their worst, grumbling about the need to go through "this bullshit" as well as the other usual spew. These people will never change, so I simply needle them when I can at times, making their days a little less bearable using their own fears and ignorance against them.

It's enough to make me take off my running pants and quit the human race.

I have a friend who is somewhat like that and I've learned to tune him out. It's sad because beside from the racist bullshit he's a good person but I just can't deal with it so I don't do stuff with him any more.We used to build cars together and it's a real loss for me but ,you know, I'm better off working on cars alone or not at all rather than listing to that crap. Don't let it get to you and ruin your health. Their bullshit isn't worth it .
