Note to self: Block everyone from high school that have settled into Facebook. They seem to be the same cliquish, opinionated assholes they were 30 years ago. It was a huge relief getting away from that scene, there's no reason to believe that it has changed one bit.

How appropriate that I have misspelled it as "Fecebook" on a couple occasions.

Amen to that! I am currently experiencing the same thing with those I went to college with. Why bother friending me if you're going to ignore me? Bass akwards...

All I had to do was glimpse into some publicly available conversations and profiles and I had enough. Rather than block everyone, I removed the graduating year from my high school entry. I'll get lost in the crowd that way.

This was an issue for me as well, but I got past it. In fact, I enjoy some of the people from my past. I especially enjoy it when they read something that makes them uncomfortable or disturbs them. I'm probably an idiot or maybe even an asshole for confirming everyone that friends me. I had one who got upset when one of her bible throwing friends and me got into it on her wall. She was so distressed she had to go through and delete entries on her myface wall. She was also distressed her church friend looked like such an incredible douche.

The people who mattered to me in high school I tend to still keep in touch with for the most part. The rest can pound sand.

When I went to my 30th reunion I suddenly remembered why I hadn't spoken to any of these people in 30 years. That's the main reason I've stayed away from FB.

I feel the same way about people who add me from my secondary school...most of them don't know I'm gay or what I do.

If I knew them I add them, and let them decide whether they want to really follow me, gay queer content and all.

I definitely decided NOT to do the reunion. I just couldn't cope with the difference between their parochial straight family life and mine...and the people I DID get on with are rarely to be seen online, sadly. Totally disappeared.

Is there a way to actually preemptively block people from seeing your profile on facebook?

Yes, you can do it by going to the account settings, then to the privacy area, and either block specific people, or change the privacy settings for the whole account.

That's hilarious, it's EXACTLY why I've just "forgotten" to add some people, and actively NOT sought out others. The people I want to talk to from high school are people I've never STOPPED talking to since.

LOL re typo

My poor memory serves me well in this instance, I cannot recall any names of anyone I went to school with, bar one! LOL Plus, no-one can find me, well it will be darn hard, as I have maxed out my privacy settings ha ha ha Anyways, I still can't see the appeal of FaceB so am not rushing to collect a myriad of friends til I have more of an inkling I will use it, there are exceptions of course, like your good self ;)
