Since last night, our area is being socked with tropical storm-like conditions, with tornado warnings earlier in the day, and generally is a super-soaked mess outside. No damage out there to report, other than some early dropping of leaves.

Inside, however, is another matter. My health issues as well as my financial situation of late has put the brakes on getting the house and garage roofs done. I figured I'd see how things held up during the deluge. Well, there's now wet spots in places on the house ceilings, and there are puddles inside the garage from the roof leaking there as well. In other words, it's gotten much worse. With my surgery date looming in a week and a half and the fact that I have become essentially immobile now, there's little I can do at this point. My involvement in the actual work is minimal, I just have to crawl up into the attic space and frame the areas in the roof for the three skylights, and pick up the actual skylights from the building supplier. There's no way I'll get that done beforehand, and there has to be a substantial wait time after my surgery where I plan to do little but sit around the house as I recover. I'm not taking any chances there, I don't need to be a permanent cripple.

Needless to say, I am upset as hell. More work needs to be done, and more money spent. Part of it is my fault for not getting things done sooner, but it seems just as things are going my way, something trips me up and I have to put things on hold. I was doing remarkably good at the beginning of the year and figured things would have all been taken care of by now, but you know how that story went.

I'm seriously screwed now. And I am a bundle of nerve and anger as a result.

Phil, don't be so hard on yourself. You had no way of knowing that the pain would get so bad. Things will just have to wait until you can get them done, which will be a couple of months,
at least.

Hoping surgery will give you the results you desire.

*ULTRA-HUGS*

I wish I could help you. And I wish the love I'm sending you could fix all your leaks of all variety.

Give yourself a break, Phil. You've built up enough karma points from all the things you do to sit on your ass as long as you need to. The work will wait, and I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job when you are able, which I hope will not be long.

You need to scale back your plans sometimes. This is one of those times man. Just get the roof done and forget the sky lights and anything else you have to do.A house or any other material possession isn't worth your health and well being and after your surgery you don't want to be fooling with this crap. If I lived closer I'd come over and frame it for you but that's not possible. Just get yourself well and forget all this other stuff.

Ihate to sound like a broken record, but others have already voiced my opinion. You are bein' entirely too hard on yourself. If it was a case of you sittin' around and just not doin' it, then you can be harsh. But you're doin' all you can do (which is prolly more than you SHOULD do). Gotta take care of yourself, my friend. My apologies that I don't have the means to come and help..

Hang in there Phil! One thing at a time - the most important thing you can do is get yourself better - please put all your strength into that.

Big gentle hugs

Man, when it rains...
I can feel your frustration, and wish I could give ya a big hug.
What kind of roof do you have? Puddles aren't a good sign in any case, and it looks like you won't be able to do anything to it until well into winter.
When I lived in Gurerneville, we joked that the town flag was a blue tarp. Folks often covered whole sections of leaky roof with big tarps until the rainy season ended. I don't know how harsh your early winters get, but that might be a stopgap to prevent more leak damage.
No ladders needed-- just tie ropes to rocks or weights, and toss them over the house. Tie 'em to the tarp and drag it over the roof.
You'll be stylin' like Rio Nito!
