So it finally happened. My credit card, or, more precisely, the number, got jacked. I got several calls from the issuing bank on Memorial day Monday telling me that the card has been deactivated because of activity not matching my usual patterns and coming from overseas. Great. Of course, I am not on the hook for these fraudulent charges, and they are sending a new card out. My only concern is I have some recurring bill-pay charges that drop monthly, and I now have to call all relevant parties and give the new info, not to mention clear the old card from various online outfits. People suck.

In other news, I've been hit with a nasty sore throat. My visit to the doc today netted me some antibiotics to help clear it out, it has been ruining my past few days. The weather here has been scorching, and I've been managing, but having a mild temperature makes it that much worse.

Yesterday Jeff took his truck for emissions testing. On his way home I was talking to him on his cell phone as he stops at the post office, he tells me that he smells antifreeze around his truck. I tell him to bring the truck down to the garage, where it proceeds to puke coolant from one of the water pump gaskets. Again. This is a new water pump, but I've had problems with the gaskets basically coming apart and the coolant furiously leaking. I'm going to toss this new pump, chalking the problems up to poorly machined mounting surfaces and/or a casting that moves too much with temp changes and get something different. I've never had such issues with a simple Chevy water pump before. The original went well over 100k, this one has been in and out of the truck twice to repair the gaskets.

Jeff has been having staff problems again at work, and he's gotta weed out more bad apples. This means, of course, more work for him, but he says he can manage. It should not be so damn difficult.

My illness du jour has slowed me down on things I wanted to take care of this month, couple that with the sudden dog days-like heat wave and my energy levels are practically zero. I hope this weekend is more seasonal. More record-breaking heat for the area. But, hey, there is no climate change, right?

Though your credit card problem does suck it could be way worse.I had my identity stolen a few years ago. Some guy in Fla opened up credit cards,a bank account, and department store credit accounts in my name! he bought a used car in Miami, ran up all sorts of bills upwards of 15000 dollars . It took me months to get it sorted out and hundreds of hours on the phone with those fucking credit reporting places.I had to get the police involved , it was a nightmare. So be thankful that they only got your card number.I have someone out there with all my info, ss # and everything. How he got it is a total mystery . As for the water pump, you can chaulk that up to free market capitalism and the wonderful pigs at corporate amerika who farm out all our manufacturing to the third world where they make 3 cents an hour. You get what you pay for but the assholes at the top making all the money don't give a rats ass that you are unhappy about their inferior products they already got your money just like the thief who
stole my identity and your credit card number. Welcome to the 21st century

I've had my card jacked a few times... I remember a call from VISA asking if I had *really* just bought $10,000 worth of shoes from a company in Asia LOL. It's always a pain in the ass going through and remembering where my recurring payments are but so nice that they keep an eye on these things.

I have never had my card jacked - knock on wood.

Last week I had my intake manifold gasket blow - $1000 bucks gone just like that. GM products are known for it and they even had a class action lawsuit against them for it.

I think it's probably unavoidable at this point that eventually everyone will get a fraudulent charge or their number jacked. I can remember when I was the only one I knew it had happened to. Now I'm not sure I know anyone except maybe my folks who rarely use credit cards who have not had some sort of issue. I had someone hack my ATM card for my first experience of this. My issuing credit union refunded everything immediately and then they were very specific about the mechanisms used to do it and that forever changed my behavior about using ATM machines. That lesson is never use an ATM machine not attached in some way to an actual bank building.

Credit card theft is never any fun. You should check your credit report to see if anyone tried opening up new accounts under your name. Since you were the victim of identity theft, they will be free.

I'm not a big fan hot weather, but it hailed and rained (a cold rain) on me yesterday.

When my bank decided to give me both a MasterCard and a Visa, I dedicated the MC to the recurring payments thing - and I don't use it for anything else. (In fact - now that I think of it, there's no reason for me to even carry it in my wallet. I should stash it with my blank checks.) The Visa card that I use for purchases in person and online has had to be replaced once or twice, but because all the recurring stuff is on a different card - much less hassle. If you can set up something like that, it's worth considering.

Damn, Phil I'm sorry your credit card got jacked like that! Hope it's all fixed now.

I only have a debit card; the poor sod who tries to scam me would only be able to charge up to my current bank balance - which is always very low, LoL! No used car or expensive vacation for them. They might be able to charge lunch at McDonald's though... heh.

Get well soon, gargle with warm water with a couple of spoonfuls of salt. It's an old trick my mom taught me many years ago to help fix a sore throat; it does help.

*HUGS* Yikes! So far I, too, haven't ever had a credit card number jacked. But... it's like one of those things you begin to fear is just looming ahead of you.

Be careful with that sore throat. About a month back, I started off with one that quickly escalated into a full-blown allergy/sinus rampage. As it turned out, I had a nasty sinus infection. I hope you don't!
