Actually the dude is one of many Santa's elves on surveillance duty during the year (after all, there is a means for the big guy to know who's been naughty or nice). This poor schmuck was assigned to Danae, the often troublesome little girl who's the bane of her liberal talk show father seen in the last frame. I definitely love the not-always-so-subtle imagery in this strip!
I haven't been following this strip in years... Thanks for bringing me back to it. I got that site bookmarked now! I even went back a couple of days and found one I have to post too!
In many cases, the positions are reversed, Danae slams Dad down time and time again, usually by some consequence of her actions. Great strip, great humor.
