In today's mail was a large envelope. Inside was a certificate congratulating me for my years of service with The Company That Makes Funny Looking Airplanes, as well as a catalog of gifts. Major stuff this time, watches, espresso maker, crystal, clocks, 32G iPod, big screen TV, even bicycles. How long have I been at the same gig? Thirty years. At one time I couldn't imagine myself being thirty years old, much less working at the same job for that long.

I should feel a sense of accomplishment, but it pales next to my feeling just... old. I guess it's part of my current round of spine troubles making me feel all of my years behind me pushing back.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to shoo people off my lawn.

My last employer stopped giving little gifts after 25 years service. This had nothing to do with me leaving them after 28 years though. Honest.

Congratulations.

We're all aging. It's inevitable.

Congrats, though ... The longest I've ever been in one gig was The Sealy News as a reporter and that was 5.5 years. Of course, they were very flexible and let me do theater throughout. My next longest job was Phantom of the Opera on tour, almost 4 years ... 1528 shows.

None of it compares to your 30 years!

HUGS!

I'm sorry you have pain.

But getting older does have some
compensations: you know more now
than you did thirty years ago. :)

Congrats on a big accomplishment. In this work environment, it's even more impressive.

Congrats on 30 years...I'm a little younger than you, but I started shooing kids off my lawn years ago. ;-)

Having just begun a new job, I'm a bit envious of your tenure. I am old enough to have been in the same job for 30 years. But there are few people, these days, who can claim to have done so. Congratulations!

John got an Amazon voucher from his former place he's retired from (become Emeritus or whatever that means), he's given it to me because he hates them so much.
