The other evening I decided to post and, lo and behold, LJ was either under attack by Russian hooligans or someone tripped over a thick cable in a server room somewhere. Typical. I'll try that post when things have calmed down.

Now if I can get SP2 for XP to install, I'll be fine, got that damned NIC to connect. Turned out I had to add it's MAC address to my router settings.

Once I can get SP2 installed (usually some DLL file that can't be found or something corrupted, sometimes it's the download that's at fault) I'll be fine as I can then upgrade my browser as they need SP2 to install. :-(

I just pulled a file across directly through the network to see if I can get it to work that way, no go, but had another source downloading, and will try that in the morning.

Other than that, am decristmased, though I still need to get the ornament tubs back down to my storage locker in the basement and get the tree bag so I can remove that and put it away, and then I'm totally decristmased for the year.

Outside of that, feeling good that stuff is getting done.

Well, it's a relief to hear I'm not the only one to have LJ weirdnesses like that happen ... fortunately I've found that after a few hours the spell passes and all goes smoothly again.

So far, 2013 has been peachy (...and that holiday icon pic of yours remains swoony as ever).
I'm just about to bid farewell to the land of cute Poms and head back to northern climes.

Instead of doing the SP install from Windows Update, head to the MS site and look for the SP2 update for network installation, or "for system professionals". This version is the entire SP2 pack with everything, it runs as a standalone process rather than happening piecemeal over the net. The file is about 250MB, last I remember. Download it using a separate PC, copy it to a USB stick or a CD-R, take it to the cantankerous machine and have at it.

De-xmassed here too, all I need to do is plant the live tree we used. :)

Seriously. It seems that any time I wanted to make a "serious" posting, I have to fight with Russkies. Makes me give up. Poor timing or bad luck on my part or something.

You can try and sneak a Pom home with you. They fit in overhead bins. ;)

I got a couple as well. I liked it when LJ was srs bsns run by Six Apart and we were doing lip sync things. Speaking of which, it appears mine has gone totally AWOL. Not even in my backups.

I hafta get that contract dispute release of Magazine to you some day. I was reminded by the Kennedy Center tribute when A&N brought down the house.

Don't know if you saw my later post but decided to ditch SP all together as Opera will install without the any of the updates as even the IT version had issues with the same thing, and it may WELL be that the HD itself is going bad, after all, it's ONLY 8 YO.

Hang in there, in spite of the 'Russian Roulette' we get to experience sometimes when trying to post.
Alas, I already had too much luggage, tho your suggestion of absconding with a Pom was tempting (I've made it back home in one piece). For your edification: a couple shots of the Poms I left behind ...the white one goes by the name of 'Fat Boy' and is expert at playing 'fetch' with mini-tennis balls.
