Not for the arachnophobic
Sep. 16th, 2004 07:26 pmI had a rather intriguing guest/observer while out tinkering in the garage today. This rather huge spider was calmly stationed on the doorjamb of the one overhead door:

Note that the edge of that doorjamb is almost an inch wide. Spidey seems to be clutching what appears to be an egg case, not a 'meal'. S/he did not mind my light poking, nor even the nudging into a jar, which it calmly complied to. After looking over the spider and showing him off around the house (and a time sitting in the jar while I took care of a couple things), I carried it back to the garage and nudged it out of the jar and back to the same spot on the doorjamb where I found it.
I have no idea what kind of spider this is, it's leg span is a bit over three inches, it's body and legs covered in furry spikes and hair.
My one ex is deathly afraid of spiders. Even the tiniest example will have him recoiling and leaving the room, if not the house. This one undoubtedly would of sent him over the edge.
EDIT: Placed spider pic behind cut because of some reactions. I apologize. That usually only happens with pictures of me.

Date: 2004-09-16 05:40 pm (UTC)You know, people like to think they're calm rational beings, until you show them a spider or a snake. Despite all our intelligence, Homo sapiensstill has some instinctual behaviors!

Date: 2004-09-16 06:23 pm (UTC)I'm fascinated by nature. And I can't help but be used to spiders since I seem to be surrounded with them here. As long as they arent bothering me, I dont bother them. Well, except to learn from them.
