I had a rather intriguing guest/observer while out tinkering in the garage today. This rather huge spider was calmly stationed on the doorjamb of the one overhead door:
spidey

Note that the edge of that doorjamb is almost an inch wide. Spidey seems to be clutching what appears to be an egg case, not a 'meal'. S/he did not mind my light poking, nor even the nudging into a jar, which it calmly complied to. After looking over the spider and showing him off around the house (and a time sitting in the jar while I took care of a couple things), I carried it back to the garage and nudged it out of the jar and back to the same spot on the doorjamb where I found it.

I have no idea what kind of spider this is, it's leg span is a bit over three inches, it's body and legs covered in furry spikes and hair.

My one ex is deathly afraid of spiders. Even the tiniest example will have him recoiling and leaving the room, if not the house. This one undoubtedly would of sent him over the edge.

EDIT: Placed spider pic behind cut because of some reactions. I apologize. That usually only happens with pictures of me.

I take it you are into spiders?

I'm fascinated by nature. And I can't help but be used to spiders since I seem to be surrounded with them here. As long as they arent bothering me, I dont bother them. Well, except to learn from them.

I am not a spider guy, but given most peoples extreme reaction to them, I admire your ability to live and let live. Others aren't so kind.

Kind of looks like a wolf spider, though I have never known them to be so tame. They can be an aggressive species when they can't get away, or defending territory. And I don't mind spiders, just so long as they aren't on me. I've even been known to catch them about the house. Including some you shouldn't play with.

I am used to spiders like this running off when touched. Either this one is old, or preoccupied with whatever it is carrying.

Cute!

You know, people like to think they're calm rational beings, until you show them a spider or a snake. Despite all our intelligence, Homo sapiensstill has some instinctual behaviors!

I try to carry my camera around for times like that - by the time I get it ready to shoot, nature's no longer ready for her close-up...

Spiders fascinate me.

She's beautiful! Spiders are great to have around the house. I used to have a couple of wolf spiders that moved into my bedroom that I named Ferdinand and Isabel.

I don't mind spiders, as long as they are not poisonous to humans or pets.
