Or maybe it should have been called Bear Bust, with the emphasis on bust?

This was by far the most disorganized of all of the Bear Invasions I had attended, but that did not stop me from having some fun (once I was able to relax). To me, these events are all about meeting up with friends, and this year there were several suprises. A bunch of friends from PA (including Jeff's oh-so-cute 'ex') showed up unexpectedly; these guys were the last we expected would show up for Invasion, and that made our weekend.

Friday evening I just could not totally relax and unwind at all. I felt out of place, I more or less stood on the side at the Green Lantern holding up the wall more than anything else. Maybe it was the totally suck-ass weather. Saturday was much better, Jeff and I walked around town, taking in various sights and places, Dinner at Annie's was a riot, as our overly flirtatious waiter made the meal a hoot He even went so far as to come into the bathroom where I had gone prior to the food being brought to the table (it was also a weekend of gastrointestinal distress as well). "There you are! Your dinner's on the table getting cold!" He deservedly got a good tip. Jeff told me he always had a mini-crush on him anyway. lol

Except for a rather cute, somewhat naive cub from Montreal (who actually won Mr DC Cub), the contestants for bear and cub were quite, shall we say, pathetic. The emcee, a drag queen who eventually began behaving like she wished she wasnt there was kinda funny from the outset, but her enthusiasm waned with everyone else's. The theme of the whole weekend was 'Red, White and Bear' with the contest being mirrored after an election. Sadly, it mirrored the past couple elections a bit too closely.

I didnt manage to spot any LJers in or around town, which I had homed to do. Maybe next time.

Well, it's back out to the garage from me. I have a couple vehicles with my name on them needing repairs.

Election??

Yikes... As if this past election didn't leave a sour enough taste... I applaud the club for trying something different, but what an opportunity for people to be sarcastic.

The Sash-queen thing was supposed to be a parody (although some runs take it WAAAAY too seriously). It's time to devote energy to another form of entertainment as an anchor activity for those weekends.

I agree a hunnert percent.

This club has followed the same format every year I've been to BI. In the past years, it worked well despite being identical layouts; it was the different themes that made it fun. Supposedly no one wanted to be in the contests.

It was so much better when a certain large teddy bear was the president...
