Even though this year has beat me senseless like no other as far as unfortunate incidents, the loss of some very close friends to cancer, my mom's own fight with lung cancer, the loss of Patches, my back injury and subsequent lack of a paycheck, numerous other setbacks and issues too numerous to mention, I still have some things to be thankful for. Tonight's turkey dinner totally rocked, it was only me, Mom and Jeff so it was nice and quiet. Mom's still improving, Jeff and I are still together, I am back to work (though still in some pain), and things seem to be turning around slowly. I also have quite a few completely awesome friends to be thankful for. Without them, I would certainly be far worse off than I am now.

My extended LJ family has kept my spirits up, kept me entertained when I was really down, and has lent me a perspective that lets me know that I am not the only one with troubles. Having someone who's battling their own demons actually take some time to send some well-wishing my way or lend a hand with something restores my faith in humanity. There is the undeniable notion that we are all in this together, and life is a lot easier when people cooperate, or simply look out for one another.

Jeff and I are heading up to PA tomorrow to spend some time with his folks. He needs the time away, since he's been constantly socked with extra work. I'll be doing some electrical work around their place to keep myself occupied and to lend a hand where it's needed.

I am certain to gain a coupla pounds after this weekend, but I dont expect it to hang around. Through a pleasing twist of fate, my disability which started almost exactly a year ago and kept me out of work most of this year has left me with my five weeks of vacation that I must use or will lose. Consequently I have once again been off from work since Monday, but in a good way this time. I wont return to work until next year, and I can look forward to a paycheck to boot. I plan on making the most of this time off, hopefully taking some little trips here and there. Maybe said trips will bring me together with some of my extended LJ family. That's yet another reason to be thankful.

Actually, Columbus is in the works for next year. Jeff has a conference there and I will tag along. I enjoyed myself in Columbus every time I was there. I think the conference in in April sometime.
