Perspectives on 2004
Dec. 31st, 2004 11:47 amI am not going to dwell too much on 'aught-four, since, well, it's been undoubtedly my worst year by far. Just a look through my journal entries spanning that time I see a man with his world coming apart around him. But, here I sit, listening to some music, eating crackers and drinking soda pop patiently waiting for 2kay4 to skulk off into the past and let the new year begin. Yep, I'm still here. And I aint gonna go quietly.
So, it boils down to persectives. All in how you look at something. That blasted glass with it's liquid level at precisely midpoint. Was 2004 my worst year?
I lost two good friends to cancer. At least they are no longer fighting against horrible pain and other unspeakable symptoms. They are finally at rest.
My mother fought her own battle with lung cancer, but she triumphed over it and is regaining her strength and refuses to look back.
I tore muscles in my lower back and was out on disability for nearly a year. During that time I got a grand total of 3700 bux in disability pay. I found out first hand how an insurance company can basically screw the fuck out of someone. But, that time off allowed me to take care of mom during the time she needed it most. That cant have a price tag placed on it. I'm back at work and currently enjoying(?) the 5 weeks of vacation that comes from working at one place for over 22 years. Plus it seems that they actually realized they were missing their star player. lol. So, again, there is a silver lining.
Patches, my wonderful Dalmation died earlier in the year. No, there is nothing good that came of that. I still miss her greatly and get misty-eyed whenever I see another Dalmatian.
Dubya gets reelected. I'm sorry, but there is absolutely nothing here that is good. This is the year I became completely disgusted with the collective intelligence(?) of the American people, as it was lies, FUD and deception that won out here. Satisfied with the outcome? Well, you either believe the lies or profit by them. Organized crime wishes it could rule the world as much as organized religion.
Friendships. I lost a few but I also gained more than I lost. I have LJ to thank for most of them. Circumstances (see above) prevented me from getting out to meet so many of you this year. I hope next year allows me this opportunity. I know I am gonna try for it. Road trip? Burning Man? Who knows? All I know is that I am gonna try my best to do it.
There is more, but I am not going to expound on it. I think the point has been made.
Here's to a new year that beats the living fuck outta the old one.
