Jeff and I are the kewlest uncles
May. 29th, 2005 10:12 amWell, it's been busy busy busy here as usual (hence no posts in a while or about NYC yet), but this weekend brought about a little change in the busy-ness to lighten things up. For quite a while, Jeff's 10-year old nephew Cole has been wanting to come down to Maryland from his home in the uber-boonies of Herndon, PA to spend some fun time with us. This had finally become that weekend. With the blessings of his mom and dad, we planned a weekend of fun stuff for Cole that include movies, an Oriole's game, ESPN zone, Harborplace and a trip to DC to see the various monuments. Cole is a very smart kid, and the DC trip was his decision. Hungry for history and science in school, he chose seeing the monuments over anything else. We will also try to give him a taste of the Smithsonian while we are there, just for icing on the cake.
In addition to his love of science (especially astronomy) and history, he loves sports, with football being his number one game, which he plays in school on their team and brings along lots of wins. Well, movie night from yesterday bore his love of football, since he picked out of all movies, The Longest Yard. Yeah. The new, MTV Movies remake. With the PG-13 rating. But, I warned Jeff, and his mom gave it an okay, so off we went. Cole had a blast, as did we. We could say that Cole will go back to his bucolic existence in the sticks of Pennslovakia farm country with a fresh outlook on prison life, colorful language and such, but the language ain't nothing he aint heard before, and certain, er, 'aspects' of jailhouse playtime don't quite register yet. We all came out smiling and laughing and having a good time, so that's what counts. And besides, Revenge of the Sith has a PG-13 rating too, so there. Pbbbbth.
Today is the baseball game, his first major league event. He's pumped. After that, we'll spend some time hanging around Harborplace in Baltimore, and we'll give him our leftover gameplay cards from ESPN Zone to hit the arcades. He'll need some wind-down time after that then tomorrow's trip to Warshnin Dee Cee and a final cookout here at the house before Jeff takes him back home, which is a 3 hour drive. Cole has school on Tuesday, of course. He'll have some really neat things to tell his friends.
I love being a 'gay uncle'.
