Some random shit
Oct. 6th, 2005 11:11 pmWho didn't see this coming...
Karl Rove getting his ass grilled again. DeLay in the fire even deeper. Miers under scrutiny from both sides. Approval rating = all time low. Ad nauseum. That can only mean one thing...
Quick! Cue up the terrorist threat! Code yella!
Look up predictable in the dictionary and you'll find this tactic by now.
-------
Have the mobo, memory and Koolance water cooling setup and case for the new beasty. Gotta get the AMD64 X2, a PC Power&Cooling power supply (none better), a pair of at least 6800-series nVidia cards for the SLI, and some drives to have a basic, workable system. A little at a time. Then I go nuts with it. Good winter project.
-------
My replacement doors should hopefully be in the week after next. I cant wait to replace the craptastic doors that have been nothing but a drafty, constantly misaligned and fogged-between-the-panes pain in my ass.
-------
Had (yet another) guy at a gas station comment about the Cooper the other day. This time the approach was a bit different. "What is it with you big guys and your tiny cars?" This coming from a reedy guy at most 5'7 driving an Avalanche. I could not help myself. "I'm undercompensating."
-------
A couple weeks ago at the CompUSA store I was eyeballing the G-5 Mac and it's gi-normous display. "Now THIS shit is bananas" I said out loud. From across the aisle I hear "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" but could not pinpoint the source in the few guys walking around. One of them was a definite hollaback girl. None were cute.
-------
Have been in a bit of a Rush mood lately and cueing up the vastness of their catalog on the iPod or here on the LAN. I've come to the conclusion that their latest effort Vapor Trails is painful to listen to. Not that it's a bad album, but that it is an overdriven, poorly mastered clipfest audio nightmare. If I was that band I'd demand a remaster. I can understand a whole lot of pop tripe being mixed tight and mastered hot to stand out on the iPods of our undiscerning youth, but the practice of being the biggest disk in the changer has no place in 'serious' music. C'mon guys, let's use the whole range of bits in that digital recorder, not just the few highest ones.

Date: 2005-10-07 06:02 am (UTC)You know that's exactly how I reacted. A friend turned to me this evening and asked me if I'd known that there was a terror alert with the subways here. I looked at him and asked, "so what is it that we need distraction from this time? I know Miers is having a rough time right now..."
*sighs* It's so pathetic it's beyond words...
