There's been a lot of action in the various gay blogs regarding the brief filed by the Department of Justice against the repeal of DOMA. Here is the Obama DOJ filing a brief packed with text comparing homosexuality with incest and pederasty, among other disproven nastiness. Yes, I was pissed, this being more in line with Bush-era right-wing spew or rhetoric used by religious groups like the AFA and the Mormons for the passage of CA Proposition 8.

Well, lookie here. Sure enough, here's a leftover Bush-era appointee, a Moron Mormon, no less. These people have no honor. They live for their hateful little causes, their deranged beliefs, their crazy superstitions, and the money that they rake in for it all. Fuckers.

Obama is not going to throw me under any bus. Not unless he's going to be sitting in back of it. And anyone who might try saying that things might have turned out better with that other choice can DIAF.

Edit: The last paragraph was meant to say that I will give up my fight for equal rights the day that Barack Obama relinquishes his. The Garage of Mayhem is not a place to pull into if you expect to find political correctness. That's not to be found among the parts and services. I just don't want to hear

because that's not available here either.

It seems I got sucked into a poorly reported investigative piece along with a lot of other people, and I was not in the best of moods to deal with it in a more levelheaded way. Still, there's some rather nasty underpinnings to be found and they are not becoming of an administration headed by one self-proclaimed as a "fierce defender of LGBT rights". For a far, far better insight on the brief, it's meaning and a forthright analysis, head over to [livejournal.com profile] joeatlarge's post here. Leave it to Joe to do the right thing as usual. And do so while lookin' so sexy. ;)

"Obama is not going to throw me under any bus. Not unless he's going to be sitting in back of it."

Beautifully said, and yet, I had some hissy PC white guys slam me for saying such things... so don't be surprised if you get the same fire.

I gotta wonder... what's Wanda Sykes thinking right about now? I'd love to find out she's furious

I meant to have said "I wont let Obama toss me under any bus..." because he'd have to let things get that bad before I would concede any sort of defeat. Which I would not anyhow.

I know the honor must be overwhelming. Thankfully they don't call someone who's on Twitter a "twit" for short. Or, I hope they don't. Actually now that I think about it, I do...

Great, I'm a twit now, and I'm passing it on. It's like stupidpox or something.

While I agree with your sentiment, there is a problem of personal responsibility. If that isn't the official position, why was it released? Doesn't anyone read these things?

So now what? Is it going to be withdrawn? Is someone going to get fired? I'm interested to see how this is handled.

Combine this with the other changes in policy, along with Obama's total inability to even mention SSM makes me very worried.

I am sure that there are behind-the-scenes shenanigans at play with all these policy changes and whatnot, it's the nature of such politics. An elected/assembled administration has to work with or against a much larger in-place network of people and ideologies. Not to mention the graft, corruption, old-boy networks and the like, and the public itself. I am far from a legislative or political expert, but being that this brief is a published document, I assume it would have to be signed off on somehow and solidified, or is it something like a bill or proposal that is made public and needs to go through some mechanism of codification and passage? Besides, this blast of text runs essentially 180 degrees counter to so much of the Democratic platform, will it be retracted, edited or otherwise nullified or changed? There's been a lot of flipfloppery and outright reversals regarding SSM and other gay issues by this administration, and someone there should be smart enough to know that there would be serious protests and calls to the carpet on this shit.

Gay pride is in DC this weekend, I expect things to get a little more than heated.

I'm just stunned by this. I understand that brief was written by a total dickhead holdover from the previous administration, but Obama better have a damn good response on this.

A lot of gay people worked very hard and contributed a lot of time, effort and money to get better leadership for the US, and we are not going to be tossed aside.

There better be a really good explanation, and a damn strong response to this from the President.

I am sure that Obama is insulated somewhat from the machinations of the presidency and he obviously has a lot of other, more serious issues to contend with. But there HAS to be some noise making it's way back up the chain of command by now. If it's not, there's a lack of leadership communications, or worse, a rogue department at work. If it actually does reach him and he's chosen to stay out of it, he has a buttload of explaining to do to a huge number of people who worked to get him where he is now.

Yeah, I've been reading of this here on LJ from several of my "F" list and I would not be surprise if the fur flies, so to speak and something is done to lessen the damage already inflicted by this statement.

And I would not be surprised if someone holds Obama to his promises, even if it ends up losing him some votes for the next time around, like much of the religious wing nuts fer instance.

But in the end, if he ends up losing a second term, a lot of the fault will lie on Obama for fucking things up, especially when it comes to gay rights, which is EQUAL rights.

Obama is the head of the executive branch of government. He is directly responsible for everything that is done by that branch. There are no excuses for such gross failure to manage his own DOJ.

He either approved this, or was utterly, despicably negligent. Either way, it is a foul reflection on him.

I said it all along thru that bullshit election season.Politicians are all the same and nothing is ever really going to change under any one of the three stooges that ran. Whant change? Look back at history and you will see,the only place where real change comes from is the streets .

I'm not upset by what you said. Not one iota.

Obama is a POLITICIAN. That means he makes a LOT of promises he has NO INTENTION of ever keeping.

We gays are pawns to him, to advance his political career.

The Bible extremists disguise their hate while hiding behind the BIBLE.

They are a billion times more evil than they imagine us to be. (Us gays.)

Just like the INQUISITORS and the NAZIS before them.

But they are counting on leading the uneducated, non intelligent masses by the nose and joining their hate parade. They appear to be succeeding.

That we do not have EQUAL RIGHTS yet is disgusting.

That it may NEVER happen for us because of that one stupid sentence in their BIBLE is NAUSEATINGLY DISGUSTING, and supremely stupid, as well.

History repeats itself because humans are retards who don't learn from it.

I would NOT be surprised if a FUTURE President got elected on the campaign promise that he would "Bring about a final solution to the homosexual problem."

The Christians need a WORTHY opponent to serve as their scapegoat besides us.

Like maybe, hate, greed, intolerance, poverty, war?

Those are the REAL issues that they OUGHT to be doing someting about!
