So I told y'all earlier that Jeff and I had dinner at Red Robin (yummmmm!). Those familiar with their TV/radio commercials know of their very brief "jingle" (the aforementioned a capella singing of "Red Robin" followed by "Yummmm") on the outro of the spots. Each time either one of us mentions Red Robin (or for that matter, sees a red robin in a tree, or Batman's sidekick) the other will almost inevitably hum the "yum" part. In my odd little brain of Mayhem, I would always associate the jingle with Paul Simon. Actually, one Paul Simon song in particular. The "yum" in the Red Robin is the same pitch chord as the intro to "Loves Me Like A Rock." Yeah, I know, seems odd, but with my pesky perfect pitch somehow crosslinked with an intermittent case of OCD, tonight I fired up the studio paraphernalia to prove the point to myself, not to mention get rid of a persistent earworm. Sure enough, I was right on. Here are two pitch-unaltered clips merged into my own version of "Loves Me Like Red Robin." Enjoy.

From what I can tell, yes, the Yumm sounds much the same and I quite enjoy that song from Paul Simon as well.

He did a LOT of great stuff in the 70's IMO.

There seems to be the uppermost note in the chord disappearing between the two. A quartet going to a trio.

Yeah, this "bugged" me for a while, so I took a few minutes to have some fun. Gotta give everyone credit for being on pitch across the span of all those decades.

I have a serious issue with Red Robin. The hamburgers are delicious. And have you ever tried the fried seafood? Again, really surprisingly good.

The problem comes with noise. They're kid-friendly so there are lots of chirrens running and shreiking about the place. Bad enough... but the acoustics of the restaurants in the Raleigh/Durham area are akin to a gymnasium. It amplifies and reverbs the din to such an extent I can't enjoy the dining experiences. We have been fortunate enough to eat near the prep area towards the front where there is an architectural element that lowers the ceiling in that area that makes the problem less irksome. But still, for some reason every time I've been the noise factor makes me crazy/cranky(er)....

Hardly any restaurant we go to can be considered "quiet." The RR was not obnoxiously loud, but, yeah, the kids were definitely making their fair share of racket. It does not help that the building is all hard surfaces and high unfinished ceilings. We were seated in a far off corner.

More obnoxious than kids are adults, mostly of the yuppie variety in large groups. Especially if alcohol is in the mix, these sorts will get louder and louder as the meal progresses.

The singers on the Paul Simon tune are The Dixie Hummingbirds. I was unable to find the singers of the Red Robin jingle.

Also, the Green Giant jingle ends with the same three notes, and I believe the same chords, but in a slightly different rhythm.
