A side effect to the antibiotics I am taking is that they leave a horrible taste in my mouth as well as make even good food have an unappetizing flavor and especially aftertaste. Best way to relate it I guess is to go and lick a corroded battery terminal, eat some food, then follow it up with chewing the terminal again. It's awful.

To make matters worse I am sitting here drinking a barium sulphate suspension for my upcoming ct scan. I feel like I am gonna wretch with each sip. The orange flavor only makes it taste like Tang mixed with spackling.

If I could figure out a way to live with no digestive tract right now, I'd have the whole mess removed.

I'd truly be the Gutless Wonder then.

taste buds...

I am sorry to hear that everything is tasting so horribly. Still, it makes me wonder how you know what a corroded battery terminal and spackling taste like.

Hope the discomfort results in, well, good results.

That's easy. I work on cars. If I clean a corroded battery terminal, battery tray or hold-downs, the resulting dust, no matter how much I try to avoid it, ends up getting whiffed in by the slightest amount, and the smell and especially the taste of this is metallic acidic nazzty.

As for the spackling, all one has to do is stand in a room being drywalled much less than doing it yourself and you'll know what I mean. :-)

1.) Trust me, I understand your misery, though fortunately my bacterial troubles haven't been as chronic.

2.) Gutless is the last word I'd use to describe you, my friend.

3.) I'll be keeping the good karma flowing your way, FWIW.

Yup...that description is about right. Barium is nasty tasting.

Did you check into the magnesium?

I feel for you. I don't like antibiotics either, that is why I have used every other method possible for ridding myself of my Sinutisits. In additon to having a bad aftertaste, antibiotics wreak havoc with my GI tract giving me a bad case of Diarrhea. They also have a tendency to take away my appetite. Erythromycin seems to be about the worst of the lot for me when it comes to this effect. It gets rid of the symptoms quickly, but at what cost? I imagine that Barium is unpleasant also. My mother has recounted stories of having to take Barium also; fortunately I've never had to do so myself. I cetainly hope that your GI tract heals itself completely w/o the need for invasive methods, HUGS. Additonally, you are very brave for having to deal with this; I would in no way consider you a "gutless wonder." Get well soon.

and I thought having back to back stomach flu/sinusitis/flu/headcold is bad enough. At least after my doctor visits he just said "well it's a string of bad luck!"

Hope you feel better soon. I've never heard of your conditions. Must not be a common one?
