Contempt of court
Jul. 1st, 2005 06:58 pmGotta wonder. Will Shrub do the right thing and select a moderate/progressive sort to fill Sandy Day's robe, or will he go with what his constituents undoubtedly want and install Jerry Falwell, James Dobson or Fred Phelps into the Supreme Court.
Welcome to Hell. Get out of the handbasket already.

Date: 2005-07-02 01:19 am (UTC)Now, more than ever, America needs real patriots who are willing to use the tools of democracy the Founding Fathers were wise enough to provide. There is a reason they provided for a confirmation process, and now is the time for moderates to demand reasonable nominations.
I often disagreed with O'Connor and Rehnquist, but I respected their legal scholarship and commitment to justice, even if they saw legal issues differently that I do.
I understand Bush's right to pick nominees who are of a conservative, constructionist viewpoint.
But the judges he just appointed to the Appellate Courts, like Priscilla Owens, Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor, fail miserably on every dimension. They are not scholarly, they exhibit a strong ideological bias and have been frequently overturned.
Americans have a right to better choices for Supreme Court nominations, and I hope you, and a lot more Americans, will demand Supreme Court justices who will serve ALL the people.
This is no time to give up the fight. I'm with you. Now is the time to give it all we've got.
