Today marks the thirtieth anniversary of Pac-Man, one of the most popular video games ever created, and still loved to this day. How loved? Well, howbout lovin' in the true Google fashion?

And it's not just a logo marking the occasion, it's an actual playable game. Head to the Google home page to get your game on. Feeling lucky? Hit the "Insert Coin" button. You get two player action with Ms. Pac Man in the game. Use the WASD keys for the missus, the cursor keys for the Pacster. And a little edit: It seems there can be slight differences depending on the user. If you are signed into iGoogle or other personalized services, you'll have to head to the "Classic" homepage. Also, if you hit "Insert Coin" to begin play instead of just waiting to begin, you'll need to hit it again for the two-player goodness. Ah, but whaddaya want for nuthin'? ;)

An edit: Being that it was so popular, it's got a permanent home beyond the initial 48 feature hours linked above.

I often berate Google for not always adhering to their motto "Do No Evil", but the Logos have always been dear to me. Wonderful, elegant tributes to special occasions, notable people, holidays and memorials. This one raises the bar of Just Plain Cool. And no Flash! And howbout a soundtrack to go along with your gameplay:

Enjoy your Friday.

I keep hearing about a site called "Chatroulette" The premise is breathtakingly simple. The site will randomly connect you to somebody else using the site. From there, you can see and hear them via webcam, as they can you, plus there's a large text window. The controls are simple as well. Three buttons for "Next", "Stop" and "Report". That's it. I spent a total of about ten minutes trying out the site. It was exactly what I expected.

Cock. *Next*
Jailbait. *Next*
Blurry. *Next*
Cock. *Next*
Blank. *Next*
Some chick. *Next*
Three young dudes playing xbox. *Next*
Cock. *Next*
Tits. *Next*
Black screen. *Next*
Jailbait. *Next*
A teddy bear. *Next*
More cock. *Next*
etc.

In other words, it was like the early days of CUSeeMe, ISPQ, ICUII, etc. The difference is that you have no control of who you will be connected with, and there's no way to find them again if, by any stroke of luck (no pud pun intended) you actually strike up a conversation. Plus, of course, more than likely the person on the other end will have clicked the "Next" upon seeing your face (or other body part, for that matter).

If nothing else, it's nothing more than a Flash-powered comic diversion. YMMV.

I am going to ruin at least part of your day at work with this little gem. Guaranteed.

I don't remember who it was I found this from (speak up!), but I have to say thanks. And damn you as well. Who knew a little game like this can be so addicting. Maybe it's the Dave Grusin-like soundtrack, or the pretty colors, or the elegant simplicity of the game. I don't know. Still, it's addicting. And very work safe, unless you care a whit about productivity.
