I keep hearing about a site called "Chatroulette" The premise is breathtakingly simple. The site will randomly connect you to somebody else using the site. From there, you can see and hear them via webcam, as they can you, plus there's a large text window. The controls are simple as well. Three buttons for "Next", "Stop" and "Report". That's it. I spent a total of about ten minutes trying out the site. It was exactly what I expected.

Cock. *Next*
Jailbait. *Next*
Blurry. *Next*
Cock. *Next*
Blank. *Next*
Some chick. *Next*
Three young dudes playing xbox. *Next*
Cock. *Next*
Tits. *Next*
Black screen. *Next*
Jailbait. *Next*
A teddy bear. *Next*
More cock. *Next*
etc.

In other words, it was like the early days of CUSeeMe, ISPQ, ICUII, etc. The difference is that you have no control of who you will be connected with, and there's no way to find them again if, by any stroke of luck (no pud pun intended) you actually strike up a conversation. Plus, of course, more than likely the person on the other end will have clicked the "Next" upon seeing your face (or other body part, for that matter).

If nothing else, it's nothing more than a Flash-powered comic diversion. YMMV.

It seems that attempts at reaching www.bearciti.com no longer end at a dangling section of ethernet cable. However, at the moment, the only thing being served is a banner screen for Microsoft's IIS 7. If nothing else, at least we know what OS they are using.

I must come across as totally uninteresting or some kind of dick online. If I make myself available on the few chat places/programs I use, no one says a damn thing to me anymore. So, I have taken that as a sign that it's time to abolish the couple remaining profiles I have left and keep LJ for the time being as my sole interaction space. I at least get some response here, and I can deal with the pace of conversation here if any takes place. If this comes across as some kind of flounce post, it's not intentional. I am just to the point of wondering what the hell I did wrong.

It was fun while it lasted.

It's been kinda fun watching the mass exodus from Bear411 to Bearciti. I ditched my Bear411 profile quite a while ago after getting frustrated with the dismal, unreliable interface and increasingly hostile attitude of the site owner to the very people that makes his site popular. While I sadly would lose contact with some of my friends on the site, many of them had moved on as well, so it was not too much of a loss. I pulled the plug and haven't looked back since.

I find it amusing that Bearciti is beginning to look like an extension of my friends list here as well as a repository of other familiar faces I have seen around Livejournal. To those who have 'made the switch', what are the new digs like? I see the profile pages are, or can be, a great deal more informative than what Bear411 is, the picture viewer albeit nice needs a bit of work, and the site seems to be coded a lot tighter than 411. How is the chat feature?

As much as I am glad that I closed down all my various online haunts, I gotta say I do miss the interaction some days. Convince me, one way or another. Should I? Or shouldnt I?
